What a fun afternoon! 🌸

Today I had the opportunity to give a little “Flower Farmer 101” talk to a lovely group of ladies. I had such a great time sharing a behind-the-scenes look at flower farming—the growing, the challenges, the lessons learned, and all the beauty in between.

I opened the flower truck early so they could take a peek and shop while they were here…and they definitely did! 🥰 Thank you, ladies!

The good news is—I’ve restocked, and the truck is ready to go for this evening! 💐

One little schedule note: the flower truck will be CLOSED this weekend while I head off to do a little learning of my own at a flower farming educational program. There’s always more to learn, and I’m excited to bring some new ideas back to Fern Bluff! 🌿🌸

🌱 Feeding the soil for next year!

As flower beds are finished for the season, they’re not sitting empty. I’m planting a cover crop mixture of buckwheat and yellow mustard.

Buckwheat helps make phosphorus and calcium more available in the soil, while also quickly covering bare ground.

Yellow mustard is a little powerhouse—it can help suppress certain soil-borne pathogens and root-knot nematodes, and it releases natural compounds that can help hinder w**d seed germination.

And the best part? Both will winter-kill here in Wisconsin. ❄️ Over winter, the plant material begins breaking down and feeding the soil. Come spring, I can plant right back into those beds.

No bare dirt. No wasted space. Just putting the beds to work even when I’m done growing flowers in them. 🌱🌸

The garden is tired. I’m tired. The flowers are starting to get the memo that fall is coming. 🤣

But we’re not calling it quits just yet!
