🇺🇸 LABOR DAY WAS BUILT BY WORKERS—not politicians, parties, or one single ideology.

Before Labor Day became a federal holiday, American workers endured long hours, unsafe factories, low wages, and few workplace protections. They organized, marched, negotiated, and sometimes risked their lives to create better conditions for future generations.

America’s labor movement included:

🔹 Veterans and civilians
🔹 Immigrants and native-born Americans
🔹 Women and men
🔹 People of many faiths, races, and political beliefs
🔹 Workers from different political backgrounds

Eastern European Jewish immigrants played an important role in garment-worker unions. Many worked in dangerous factories alongside Italian and other immigrant workers.

The 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire killed 146 workers—mostly young Jewish and Italian immigrant women—and strengthened public support for workplace-safety laws.

✅ First Labor Day celebration: September 5, 1882
✅ Federal holiday established: 1894

History is rarely as simple as a political label.

This Labor Day, let’s honor the workers whose blood, sweat, courage, and determination helped create safer workplaces, fairer wages, weekends, and a stronger America.

🇺🇸 Honor the work. Learn the history.

September means some people are chugging pumpkin spice lattes, but others are still at the beach. 🍎

This drink is still a spritz, so there's a touch of summer in there somewhere, making it perfect for the transitional moment we're in.
