On This Day in Rock ’n’ Roll History — September 27, 1986

40 years ago today, Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was tragically killed in a tour bus accident while the band was on the Master of Puppets tour.

Only 24 years old, Burton left an indelible mark on heavy metal in a remarkably short career. His playing on Kill ’Em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets helped define Metallica’s early sound and continues to influence generations of musicians.

September 27, 1986 — gone far too soon, never forgotten.

ON THIS DATE IN ROCK ’N’ ROLL HISTORY

📅 September 16, 1977

On this day, the world lost Marc Bolan, the legendary frontman of T. Rex, at just 29 years old.

Bolan died in a car accident in London when the car he was riding in, driven by his girlfriend Gloria Jones, crashed into a tree in Barnes, London.

A defining figure of the glam rock era, Bolan left behind a remarkable catalog of music, including “Get It On,” “Jeepster,” “Telegram Sam,” and “Metal Guru.”

His life was tragically cut short, but his music and influence live on.

🎶 Remembering Marc Bolan — September 30, 1947 – September 16, 1977.
