This the most recent plate I finished. Center is chip carved. It is a 10” diameter plate. The back side has the same pattern. In case you were wondering there is over 3500 little rectangles on the basket illusion portion.

I will be doing a basket weave illusion class at the Kerrville Arts and Cultural Center on Friday and Saturday October 9 and 10. We will start with turning a platter then doing the beading and burning followed by designing and painting. Lathes are provided by Hill Country Turners club. If you are interested please let me know. If you need tools or supplies let me know that also because I do have extras and some things will be provided anyway. Space is limited so don’t wait.

Well, things don’t always work out like you plan. I wasn’t able to get to Colorado to the Rendezvous this year. I miss you all and I’m already looking forward to next year!
I hope to be doing classes again in the fall. I will be doing a turning class in Kerrville this fall. Lathes provided. I will put out more information on that when the schedule is confirmed. In the meantime, keep the chips flying!

Just finished this one tonight. The Creede Woodcarvers Rendezvous is coming up fast. I will be teaching 2 classes there. The first two days will be Chip Carving and the next two will be Basket Illusion. That is the two techniques I used to create this piece.
The Rendezvous starts Saturday July 11 it would’ve great if you could attend!

Hi all, I’m back! Sorry I haven’t posted anything about the classes! I was too busy and it’s been a blur since I got back with some family health issues.
I’m afraid I didn’t get many pictures from my students but let me share this one. I don’t think she needs any more instruction! I consider it a huge compliment when a student surpasses the instructor. Congratulations Beckie Stover

I’m here at the Texas Woodcarvers Guild Spring Roundup. I entered a couple pieces in the show that did well. I’m excited about the merit award.

I’m preparing projects for the spring and summer classes. The 1st step is turning the shape, 2nd is turning the beads, 3rd burning the radial lines, and 4th indexing the lines.
I will be in Kerrville April 18-24 teaching basket weave illusion at the Texas Woodcarvers Spring Round Up.
I will be in Creede Colorado July 11-14 teaching Basket Weave Illusion and Chip Carving at Creede Woodcarvers Rendezvous. I would love to see you there at either and of course I’m willing to schedule a private class just give me a shout!

It’s been a little crazy around here ever since Christmas. I finally got time to finish this little angel. I have had the idea for a while to put a basket weave pattern on the skirt but I haven’t had time to do it. I turned it early in January but just got around to painting her tonight. The pencil is for size reference.

Had a wonderful time with these ladies today! I think they enjoyed their chip carving class. They all did great
