▪️There are many benefits of cooking with your children. If you have an older child, please know that it is NEVER too late (or too early) to start including your children in meal preparations. ☺️

✨When Carter was a few weeks old I picked up The Happiest Baby on the Block. The advice we immediately implemented is the reason Carter sleeps about 11 hours without interruption today and naps 1.5 hours every day.

✨So as Carter transitioned from baby to toddler I was happy to invest in Dr. Karps Happiest Toddler on the Block. I bought the book a while back but life got in the way a d most of the content stayed in my digital library. I picked it up today because lately Terrance and I are at the mercy of our soon to be 3 year old. I wish I had followed through with the book sooner.

✨We don’t believe in spanking and we don’t believe in yelling. So please don’t suggest either. When Carter was born, everyone including his first doctor said to let him cry when we were desperate for a healthy sleep routine for baby and his poor parents. Thank GOD we went with our intuition and found a kinder alternative. And today you can pretty much set your watch with his sleep routine.

✨Anyway, if you have some kind tips on how to get your child from screaming and now hitting, please let us know. For now, I’m going to say a little prayer that this book I’m going to consume over the next several days helps because we literally can’t take him anywhere. He is fine one moment but as soon as something goes wrong or he has to do something he doesn’t want to, he screams like he’s lost his mind. And we just don’t want to lose our cool, although it’s hard not to when your ear drums are ringing. And worse when you have a crowd watching, making you feel like you’re incompetent and unfit to parent.

PS: he’s very cute and healthy. Just some behavior issues we want to catch before they form into bad habits.

▪️What first drew me to the Montessori philosophy was the style of learning.

▪️In traditional classrooms, the teacher stands at the front of the classroom and they decide what everyone is going to learn that day, based on the idea that everyone learns at the same time.

▪️It's a very top down and authoritative approach.

▪️On the other hand, the Montessori approach is much more child-led. Beautiful materials are laid out and the child is free to choose which activity they'd like to engage with.

▪️The teacher is the guide. There's a lot more freedom, which makes learning fun and interesting, I think.

▪️It's a very holistic education that includes academic but also social and life skills. My goal is to help Carter develop an endless love and curiosity for learning.

▪️I've been applying these principles and ideas at home for about a year now and can say that they've helped me, as a parent, tremendously.

▪️I'm still learning! Oh how I wish I had learned this way growing up. I have to continue to remind myself not to quiz my child or provide answers to questions right away and instead take my time to explore possibilities and solutions together.

▪️We all learn in different paces and different ways and in the Montessori way you can do that. 😀
