Will is really enjoying this album by Hyper Gal, called Our Hyper that came out in April. Hyper Gal is a two piece band from Osaka that blend elements of noise, no wave, pop, and punk to create a unique experimental sound. He says it’s weird and wonderful and you should definitely check it out if you like The Boredoms.

Previously unreleased, the Dead’s entire legendary performance at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbus, MD 6/30/85 is finally being released as a 3CD & 4LP set! This set includes what most deadheads consider the best version of “Shakedown Street” ever performed. Please join us on Thursday, September 17th at 5:30 pm during our special Merriweather 6/30/85 listening Party where we’ll give out free stickers and posters to attendees. We will also have some very special limited edition Josh Hunter 18×24 posters to give out with purchase (preorder recommended).

Happy Labor Day! Fingerprints is open today for your shopping delight. Iggy recommends this new reissue “Soul Jazz Records’ ‘Calypso - Musical Poetry in the Caribbean”. It was first issued in 2014 and has been out of print for nearly 10 years. This new edition has been fully remastered and comes as a one-off limited-edition double vinyl pressing on translucent green vinyl, complete with bespoke inners featuring extensive sleevenotes, notes on all the artists and songs featured, and original artwork and photography. Featuring Lord Kitchener, The Mighty Viper, Count Zebra, Lord Flea, Lord Hummingbird, King Fighter, Lord Growler, Lord Byron, Lord Ivanhoe and other members of Calypso’s aristocracy and aristocrats, the album features the music of Calypso in it’s many styles. Available on CD and vinyl now at Fingerprints. 🌴

Jada would like to highlight this recent release by saulwilliams - Leap Life out now on CD and LP via Big Dada . Leap Life is Saul Williams’ first solo album in over 10 years and marks a major return for one of the most influential voices in spoken word and experimental music. Named after Saul’s leap year birthday, the project has been carefully sequenced by composer and producer Carlos Niño as a fully immersive, front-to-back listening experience. The album expands Saul’s sound into electronic and ambient territories while remaining rooted in spoken word, with rich sound design built from nature recordings, environmental textures, and expansive instrumentation. It also sees Saul step further into the role of producer, drawing influence from Fela Kuti, Black church traditions, and South African electronic music.The record features a standout cast of collaborators including Kamasi Washington, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Moor Mother, Gonjasufi, and Surya Botofasina, alongside material developed with Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack).

Our friends at Goldenvoice sent us two pairs of tickets to The Black Angels Passover Anniversary show at the The Fonda Theatre on November 4th so we included them free with purchase of this beautiful Light in the Attic 20th anniversary special limited edition of the album housed in a silver and gold foil gatefold jacket. This edition is pressed on white, black & gold color wax and includes 1 of 4 flexi records featuring a track recorded live at KEXP in 2006. We only have two sets so they won’t last long. These are first come, first served, no holds or phone orders.

Dan wants to highlight this new release by Floating Points out today titled Mere Mortals with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra on limited edition 2LP set. Sam Shepherd (aka Floating Points) traded nightclubs for the ballet stage with Mere Mortals, a retelling of the Greek myth of Pandora. Premiering with the San Francisco Ballet in 2024, and returning in 2026, the work recast Pandora as a symbol of curiosity and change. Also out today is the 5th Anniversary edition of the phenomenal Promises album with Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders, and the London Symphony Orchestra on green and blue vinyl.

50 years after its original release, Mother Earth’s Plantasia by Mort Garson is available again on eco mix green LP and CD via Sacred Bones . Half a century on, it continues to resonate - an enduring reminder of Mort Garson’s ability to make the synthetic feel strangely alive and the whimsical feel oddly profound. Subtitled “warm earth music for plants…and the people that love them,” it was full of bucolic, charming, stoner-friendly, decidedly unscientific tunes enacted on the new-fangled device called the Moog.
The album gained an enormous cult following decades after its release. Sacred Bones’ 2019 reissue helped introduce Plantasia to a wider global audience, sparking a remarkable second life for Garson’s unlikely masterpiece. While supplies last we have some delightful plant markers free with purchase of either format that you can use at home.
