safes on the market. Where typical gun safes had 1/8" or 3/16" steel bodies, Fred designed thick 1/4" steel bodies with massive 1/2" thick doors. Our reputation as the best deal in town grew fast. In 1991, Kevin Hand, Fred's son, began working at the company where he introduced the 2300 Degree Ceramic fire-proofing system. In 2001 Kevin left Sportsman and founded Pentagon Safes to build higher end products. It was there he perfected the first ever "5-Point Sealing Step Door." These step doors were the way bank vaults & commercial safes were manufactured. After a quick negotiation, Kevin came back to Sportsman as a partner where he introduced a new line of products that included vault doors, nuclear doors, blast doors, modular vault rooms & storm shelters. Because of the newfound quality and design our client list grew to include the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, US Secret Service, Quantico, DEA, AFT, Marines, Army, Navy, "The Price is Right" & 100s of police stations around the country. Today, Sportsman & Pentagon Safes has morphed into a real "Custom Fabrication Plant." We can build anything from a simple gun safe to an elaborate Five-Star jewelry safe with seismic detectors, birdseye maple drawers with pivoting glass displaying watchwinders.
