Hot, sunny spot that needs color? These plants can take the heat. ☀️

🌼 Penta (Egyptian Star Flower) — Full sun, high temps, and nonstop star-shaped blooms from summer until frost. They’re also a favorite for butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.

🌼 Vinca (Catharanthus roseus) — One of the toughest annuals for hot, dry weather. It keeps blooming when many other plants start to struggle.

🌼 Lantana — Loves intense sun and tends to bloom even more as the heat builds. It’s drought tolerant once established and great for pollinators.

🌼 Zinnia — Bright, cheerful blooms from midsummer until frost. They’re great cut flowers and a magnet for butterflies and bees.

🌼 Celosia — Bold color, unique texture, and excellent heat and humidity tolerance. Perfect for containers, borders, and dramatic pops of color.

The summer heat can be rough on our gardens, but some plants are built to handle Minnesota summer heat better than others. These are a few of our favorites, and the best part is that they are all native to Minnesota!

🌸 CONEFLOWER brings long-lasting blooms from summer into fall, attracts butterflies and pollinators, and holds up beautifully in heat and dry conditions.

🌸 YARROW comes in a variety of colors, thrives in poor, dry soils, and makes a great cut flower.

🌸 BEE BALM is a favorite for hummingbirds and pollinators, and newer mildew-resistant varieties can tolerate summer heat while still looking their best.
