For a time, I found myself traveling alongside a battle-hardened old wizard. He was of the toadfolk, with wrinkly, green skin and webbed hands and feet.

We were both traveling toward the city of Willowreach, the grand Capitol of the province. We were together merely by chance, having both left the silken maiden tavern on the same day, and decided it best to stick together. He was always short-tempered and bitter with me, but I suspect he secretly enjoyed the company.

He preferred when I addressed him by Bogwort the croaking, but that was always such a mouthful, so I shortened it to "Boggy".

One afternoon, I was asking him question after question and he would give one or two word answers, as he always did. I eventually asked the question, "What made you want to become a wizard?"

He paused...

A look of recollection crept onto his usually sour face.

"A spell" he replied, as if lost in a memory.

"Fo you remember it?" I prodded.

He looked my direction for a moment. The toad then changed his direction and walked right past me and up a small hill.

Boggy gathered his staff and started whirling it around his small body, stirring the clouds above into a frenzy. Slowly, his circles grew tighter and tighter, angling the staff until it pointed straight above his head.

A burst of sparks and light erupted from the staff, reaching into the sky! The clouds he had gathered started rocketing up with the beam, as if being sucked into space.
The lights twinkle and shined, illuminating the area in a warm glow.

Boggy had a gleam in his eye. The kind of gleam you see children get while they play in the stream on a hot summer afternoon.

And for the first time since I met him, Boggy smiled.

Sometimes, the world works in funny ways. I was at a chip shop down by the sea and, as I was admiring the way the gulls hovered on the wind, a small boy plopped down next to me. He eyed my battered cod, so I thought I'd give him the rest. I continued to watch the birds, and the boy took notice in between bites.

"Nothin' like Ol' Blue." He said, mouth full of fish.
"Pardon?" I replied, surprised the boy could talk at all.
"Them birds. They ain't nothin' like Ol' Blue. Best at flyin ya ever seen!"

He then regaled me with the tale of Ol' Blue the whale.

He said that Blue was a somehow separated from his pod when he was little, and that he desperately wanted a family. Though the pod was gone, the birds were always nearby, sweeping down to visit him every day. By night, however, the birds always had to leave, and he was alone once more.

Blue knew what he had to do. He started practicing, flapping his fins as hard as he could in the water to build up their strength. He'd jump out of the sea all day until he was too tired to continue. Every time he'd come crashing back down into the water.

The other fish and sea life would laugh at his antics. They knew he would never escape the cold blue water.

One day, he had finally had enough. Just as his friends, the birds, were all starting to fly back to shore, Ol' Blue swam as fast as he could and launched high up into the air.

An audible CRACK filled the air, though no one knows from where it came. The next thing everyone knew, there was a whale in the sky, floating around on the breeze.

He was finally able to join his friends, and from that point on, Ol' Blue was never alone again.

I visited the small kingdom of Filla Dorei, a polite little kingdom tucked away amidst the mountains. They had told me legends of a dragon that lived nearby. Luckily for them, the dragon, too, was friendly.

They had a mutual arrangement, the dragon would eat livestock left in a pasture set aside from the rest, and in return, the dragon would provide protection and occaisionally pay for his meals with gold in order to keep the kingdom thriving. It was said that the dragon didn't oft get seen by the townsfolk, but every once in a while, someone would catch a shadow or a gust of winged wind.

As I was leaving, I couldn't help but feel I was being watched. I turned my gaze toward the nearest mountain, which is where the citizens figured its lair to be. But nothing was there. So I put myself in the dragon's shoes. If I wanted a vantage point where nobody would look, I would be....

I turned my head toward the mid-morning sun and there it was, cutting a path across the blue summer sky. It was an incredible sight.

This time on my adventures, I found myself in a quaint little shop in a far off land. The people here found immense value in spices, herbs, and other unique ingredients like powdered dragonfly wing. I lost countless hours perusing the shelves and aisles.

Finally, I had settled on a few dried mushrooms and pickled clover leaves when I spotted a unique sight indeed. Sitting up on the counter was a rather large glass bowl with a singular occupant inside. This fish of wonderous colors, which I am told is of the Beta variety, swam about lazily in its home.

I found the sight quite inspiring, and made a note to create a painting when it was more convenient.

I remember, in my travels, coming across a small pond. An oak tree stood quiet off to the side, creating a cool spot to rest. I took the time to set out my cloak as a makeshift blanket and settled down for a nap.

When I awoke in the evening, I could hear the plip plop of something in the water. Peering over the edge, I spied the most beautiful koi I had ever seen!

They were feasting on the little bugs and things drifting down onto the surface of the water. I looked around for a moment, and took in just how calm and peaceful this place was.
