Fashion sketching was my favorite class in design school. My teacher Ms Reigelman would make the tiniest changes to my drawings: define a jaw, round an eye, bring the lips closer to the nose, making the figure a touch more beautiful.✨

All those little changes would make the biggest difference. Not only was her eye for the tiny adjustments impressive, but the idea of how the tiny changes made the drawing infinitely better sticks with me today- in sketching, sewing, and in general.

Having the experience after years and years of trial and error to be aware of what needs changed and how to change it is something I think about every time I sketch.

Ms Reigleman passed away the year after I had her as a teacher, but her impression on me still sticks. And so does the little changes she made to some of these sketches from design school days. Swipe right to see if you can spot her lasting touch☺️

My inspo board is taking a sun bath this AM 🙌🏼

People say LA doesn’t have all four season, but I can see the change in the way the sunlight hits slightly lower, the crisper morning air, and a much clearer morning sky. There’s certainly a buzz in the air with school back in session, football Sundays, and anticipation of the holiday season. I love October in Los Angeles.💛

The change of season means for me (and you!) a new collection coming soon🙃 F/W 2023 collection is right around the corner.🍂

What subtle changes do you notice in your area during the change in the season? Drop your thoughts in the comments🫶🏼

A lesson I learned very quickly when I entered the adult world, post-college with my Fashion Merchandising degree in hand: the fashion world is not glamorous 95% of the time. Surprise! 🥳

Much of my work day is spent laboring over ironing, cutting, and sewing mockups, covered in threads and fuzz from fabric for that final fulfilling feeling when I get to see a design come together, which sometimes takes days, weeks, and - with bespoke orders - months to finalize.

Some of my favorite moments in the studio are seeing a final design completed on the dress form. It’s worth enduring the non-glamorous, tireless effort that goes into each piece.

There’s so much beauty in enduring the hardships of our calling even if I might not see it while untangling an improperly threaded sewing machine or cleaning a stain out of a half finished silk dress.😅

Can anyone else relate with what they love/feel called to do? Let me know in the comments 🫶🏼

My top 3 favorite styles currently available to shop!:

1. Grace Dress - Made from flouncy hot pink bamboo knit jersey, this relaxed, yet stylish piece is one of my favorites because of its plush material paired with the sultry yet sophisticated silhouette. I only have enough fabric to make one size small or x-small left!🌺

2. Hailey Dress - The perfect everyday dress! Her elegant and minimal design makes her the perfect dress to transition from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter. I swear I wear this dress once a week.🫣

3. Reagan Dress - Throw this oversized babydoll dress on for an effortlessly playful, fun look cut from premium Ponte di Roma knit fabric that stretches with the way you move. Nothing says comfort and style like this luxurious, laid-back look.💅🏼

To customize the fabric for the Hailey and Reagan dresses, check out the color chart! Send me a message if you’re interested, and shop these favorite styles today.🫶🏼

Do you ever feel that you’re sick of getting dressed but also don’t want to sacrifice style? If you don’t have time to go full throttle on an outfit but still want to create a “look”, the Reagan dress is a great bridge piece for you. ✨

She’s cut from a Ponte di Roma knit jersey, which is wrinkle resistant, making her great to travel with AND ridiculously soft and comfortable. You can get those features from a pair of sweatpants but guess what?? - with an adorable babydoll silhouette the Reagan dress looks cute, too! She’s the workhorse of your closet.🐎

I love love love this dress and wear mine on a weekly basis. You can even customize the color at no extra cost to you. Message me for the color chart if you’re interested and shop the Reagan dress via link in bio.

Handmade to order with love in Los Angeles.🫶🏼

A peachy peek into my camera roll as of late…

I love a playful touch to every design I create whether that comes through in color, style or tiny details.

EWTL is centered around elegance and timeless fashion. By adding a touch of playfulness, like the ditsy rosette print of the Genevieve dress, my own childhood nostalgia is the spark that makes the collection unique.🌸

I learned to sew from my mother when I was young and somehow that childhood reminiscence sneaks into the designs in one way or another.🩷

That’s what I love about art & creativity - seeing the reflection of one’s spirit manifested in a garment or painted onto a canvas. Art & design is truly a window to our souls. 🫶🏼

Do you tend to start and not finish things? I have a mild history of going through "phases"..😆

My boyfriend laughed at me the other day for the way my interest is captured in something in particular and then fades away. Some examples:
-The half-grown little garden I started in the backyard🌷
-How I'll watch every movie of a particular actor and then move onto the next🎥
-A pile of half-read library books on a particular topic📚

In the context of perseverance (or ADHD😂), it may seem like an issue, but there's another way to look at it. There are overarching interests that I've started and haven't slowed down likeeee Emily Westenberger the Label.

All of my sometimes temporary interests, adventures, and exploration feed my curiosities and help me create. They fill my “well” so to speak and inspire different ideas for the things that I am consistent in.✨

Although my little projects may come and go, EWTL will always stick around, and as long as EWTL stays alive, I welcome all the little curiosities that fluctuate throughout my life.

Does anyone else experience this? I'm CURIOUS (😁) what's got you intrigued; let me know in the comments!☺️

Emily Westenberger the Label is in its third year, but my love for fashion and design has been an ongoing passion since I can remember.

I've got my hands in everything from modeling my early collections to designing, cutting, sewing, and marketing. I do it because I love creating and sharing it with you.🫶🏼

I have a vivid memory from when I was elementary school age of making little mailboxes for each of my family members' rooms. I made newspapers and passed them to each little box.📰

During a brief moment of self-awareness, I thought, "I like being in charge of something." It was the tiny little spark that fueled my entrepreneurial spirit and dropped a stepping stone onto the path that led me here today. Who would have thought playing dress up would have led to designing seasonal collections for you today?👗

Swipe to the end to see 4-year-old me as a budding fashionista.✨👧🏻💕

Part of being a designer is guiding clients to show you styles and colors and details that you didn't even know you liked. I know I've done my job when I hear you say that you’re surprised you love something!

To do that, I find little details that I love and translate them to my designs.

Tiny details found in art, photography, interiors, & everyday life can all play a part in my designs. It's all about keeping my eyes open.

Pulling a common thread from an interior like the molding on a wall drew me towards selecting an intricate Italian matelasse fabric for the Eloise dress. The elegant, fine lines of flower petals can be translated to gathers in the thin jersey fabric of the Grace dress.

It's all about noticing the little things. Everything and anything can be an inspiration.💕
