Before he ever rode into battle, Crazy Horse went alone into the hills for four days — no food, no water — crying out to the Great Spirits for a vision.
What he saw changed everything.
A warrior emerged from a lake, riding a floating horse. Bullets flew around him but never touched him. Lightning struck his cheek. Hailstones marked his body. His own people tried to hold him back — but he broke free.
From that day forward, Crazy Horse rode into every battle with a single hawk feather in his hair, a rock behind his ear, and a lightning bolt on his face. (Crazy Horse Memorial) He was never wounded by a bullet in his entire life.
Some men are protected by armor. Crazy Horse was protected by something deeper.
