Back in 2019 aboard the Coral Sea Sportfishing out of Santa Barbara Landing , one fishing trip planted the seed for what would eventually become O.B.E Tako Bait.

I caught a lingcod that spit out a halfway-digested octopus.

Instead of tossing it, I hooked that same octopus, dropped it right back down at the same stop… and things got wild.

3 lingcod back to back.
Then a sheepshead.
Then a nice vermilion.
And somewhere in between, I lost a big bite.

All on that same piece of octopus. All at the same stop.

That moment stuck with me.

If fish were already feeding on octopus naturally — and that one piece kept producing fish after fish — it made me wonder how effective octopus could be as a convenient, durable bait anglers could actually keep in their tackle box.

Years later, that memory became part of the inspiration behind O.B.E Tako Bait.

Stopped by San Clemente Pier and finally got to meet Adam from HOOKED Fishing Academy | Kids Fishing Camps in person 🎣

We’ve supported their kids fishing classes with O.B.E dried lugworm for a while now, so it was great finally putting a face to the name and seeing firsthand what they’re doing for the next generation of anglers.

Dropped off some more bait for the kids and talked fishing for a bit.

Really appreciate Adam and HOOKED Fishing Academy | Kids Fishing Camps for everything they’re doing to get more kids outside, learning, fishing, and making memories on the pier.

Another sample drop in the books 🎣

This time we stopped by Pier Market in San Clemente after a recommendation from Adam at HOOKED Fishing Academy | Kids Fishing Camps

Adam runs kids fishing classes on the pier and has been a great ambassador for O.B.E dried lugworm, so when he suggested we introduce the bait to the shop, we had to make the trip.

We were hoping to catch Scott, the owner, but he wasn’t in that day, so we left a sample pack with one of the workers for him to check out.

No guarantees yet — just getting the product into the right hands and letting the bait speak for itself.

He was skeptical about how durable O.B.E dried lugworms really are… so we let him test them himself. 👀🎣

First, he hooked one up and gave it a good pull to see how well it would hold.

Then we emptied the pack onto the table so he could see exactly what he was getting — mostly whole worms, not a bag full of broken pieces.

No pressure. No sales pitch. Just let the product speak for itself.

Safe to say the test passed… because he ended up leaving with a few packs. 🔥
