Hi guys please read the following : just amazing ! Thank you for sharing with us ! This is the most amazing thing ever ! ❤️❤️❤️
Something pretty remarkable and
serendipitous happened today (sorry for the long post).
Veronica and I went to the Santa Monica Airport flea market to kill some time before my open house. As we zigzagged our way through the stands, she pointed out a piece saying, “that kinda looks like your grandma’s style of art.” The vast majority of my grandma’s art was lost at my parents’ house in the Palisades Fire and we only saved two pieces of nearly a hundred - seeing another in public wouldn’t make sense. My grandma was not a well known artist, but painted for many years and even had a few shows on the Westside in the early 90s. Veronica questioned 10 minutes later when we walked by again, “Sammy that really looks like something she would have painted - go look.” I walked over, flipped it around and could not believe I saw her signature next to the year and title: The Doting Mother. My eyes started to well up and I couldn’t get a word out. It was ineffable. Veronica (and Pali) started freaking out and a crowd began to form from the commotion. Devin () and his mom have an awesome shop/stand () and also happens to be a friend of a friend. They picked up the piece about eight months ago at an estate sale and brought it to the flea market for the first time. After incoherently trying to explain the situation, they basically just let us take the piece and also bought one of Devin’s amazing works (check him out). We lugged it to the car, sped to my parents’ rental, and surprised them. As we directed them to the back of Veronica’s car, their reaction echoed ours: shock, elation, ano a feeling that well after my grandma has left us, she’s still finding ways to make us smile. In the end, The Doting Mother makes a pretty good housewarming present for their new house which closes escrow in a month. Until then, we’re on the hunt for her other long-lost pieces.
