We did it! 500 Founding Supporters.

When I say I’m building an ethical alternative to Amazon, here is what I mean.

It’s place where you can find independent brands creating high quality products using non-toxic, transparent ingredients as well as sustainable materials.

We’re still early, but every new brand, every shopper, and every Founding Supporter brings us one step closer being an alternative.

Here’s what my day looks like building OtterList right now.

Most of my day is spent reviewing brand applications, publishing products, answering emails, improving the website, and then making videos like this to spread the mission.

It’s not flashy, but every day we’re a little closer to building a real ethical alternative to Amazon.

We’re up to 308 out of 500 Founding Supporters! Every new supporter gets us closer to the next phase, and helps us keep building.

I don’t need everyone to believe in this anymore. I just need to keep building it.

A year ago, the challenge was proving there were people who wanted an easier way to discover and support independent, sustainable brands.

Today, OtterList already exists. People are shopping. Brands are joining. Hundreds of Founding Supporters have helped us get this far.

Now the goal is to keep making it better and reach more people every single day.

The right people keep finding us, and every person who joins helps us get one step closer to becoming a genuine ethical alternative to Amazon.

We’ve just added 20 great independent food and beverage brands to our new Ethical Directories, available exclusively to Founding Supporters.

These brands meet our standards but haven’t joined the OtterList marketplace (yet!).

A lot of people ask if OtterList can replace Amazon.

Not yet.

We’re making it easier to discover small, ethical brands, but we still have a long way to go before we can replace everything people buy every day.

I’d rather be honest about where we are than pretend we’ve already made it.
