All about purple and red in the garden this morning. There's a lovely nip in the air. The plants that somehow hung on through the drought are still flowering even as the Hawthorn berries ripen...

🎉Wahoo! 🌈The rainbow patchwork is complete ✅

Now for the quilting... That spotty fleece at the bottom of the photo will be the backing for this quilt. It'll measure approx 52" x 68" (132cm x 173cm), perfect for draping over a single bed or providing a cosy wrap-around hug 🤗

I've got a busy week ahead out of my sewing room but I'm hoping to list the finished quilt in my Folksy shop by next weekend 😊

Just four more seams to stitch! 🎉

Much more manageable to stitch little patchwork blocks into BIG blocks instead of stitching them together in l-o-n-g rows 😊

A tip if you have lots (like 165!) of little patchwork blocks to stitch together...

❌ Don't stitch them one row at a time - muddling up the order is much more likely to happen. And those l-o-n-g rows make l-o-n-g seams that are very tedious to pin and stitch 😒
✅ Do divide the rows into shorter strips. Then join them together to form manageable blocks. Much, much easier 😊

I'm going to join this mass of little blocks into six big blocks. There'll only be two l-o-n-g seams to stitch across the width of the patchwork 🙂 If I'd joined them row by row there would be fourteen l-o-n-g seams to stitch 😱

I just found a rainbow 🌈 in a box 🎁🎉 It's always fun pulling projects out of the UFO cupboard 😄

These blocks will make a beautiful quilt! Maybe another one to be gifted to a student?

There are 165 blocks to stitch together ... I'll be gone a while 👋

The I-Spy Disappearing Nine-Patch pattern includes the fabric requirements and instructions for three separate sizes from a Baby Floor Mat, through Play Quilt to Big Play Quilt.

Written with fun I-Spy quilts in mind the pattern uses 5" squares with the emphasis on novelty fabrics but of course you can adapt it to use a favourite Charm Pack or go wild making a scrappy quilt from your stash!

If you are an inexperienced patchwork-quilter then this pattern will give opportunity to practise skills of cutting and piecing without being too challenging. Quilting any of these three quilts is manageable on a standard size sewing machine.

More experienced patchwork-quilters will enjoy the speed with which this quilt can be put together making it ideal for last minute gifts or for using fabric stash to make charity quilts.

I've been promoting quilts as great gifts for students going off to uni or returning to their bedroom/study as the new new term begins.
