Most Pokémon fans know Jessie as one half of Team Rocket’s iconic duo, constantly chasing Pikachu and blasting off again. But beneath the comedy is one of the saddest backstories in the entire anime.

Before becoming a member of Team Rocket, Jessie grew up in poverty and rarely knew her mother, Miyamoto. Her mother disappeared while searching for the mysterious Pokémon Mew, leaving Jessie to grow up alone without ever learning what happened to her. She spent much of her childhood in difficult circumstances, attending Pokémon Tech and later the Team Rocket Academy, where she struggled to fit in and constantly faced failure.

Despite everything, Jessie never stopped dreaming. She wanted to become a Pokémon Nurse, a performer, a successful trainer, and eventually a star. Almost every major goal she chased slipped through her fingers, yet she kept getting back up and trying again.

Maybe that’s why Jessie became such a beloved character. Behind the arrogance, dramatic speeches, and endless schemes was someone who spent her entire life searching for a place to belong.

For all their failures, Team Rocket’s biggest success was finding each other. Jessie, James, and Meowth may never have caught Pikachu, but they created one of the most unforgettable friendships in anime history.

Sabrina was the character we both feared but fell in love with. With her terrifying psychic powers, every scene felt more unsettling than the last, and as a kid it genuinely felt like Team Rocket wasn’t the biggest threat anymore.

The atmosphere, the music, the creepy visuals, and Sabrina’s emotionless stare created one of the most memorable arcs in Pokémon history.

Over 25 years later, I still think the Sabrina episodes are some of the darkest and most disturbing episodes the anime has ever produced, but also some of the best.

Detective Pikachu brought the world of Pokémon to life in a way that felt straight out of our childhood imaginations. From Charizard and Greninja to Bulbasaur and Mewtwo, seeing these Pokémon realistically animated on the big screen was an experience fans had been waiting decades for.

Set in Ryme City, the film followed Tim Goodman and a wisecracking Pikachu as they uncovered a mystery that threatened both humans and Pokémon alike. Packed with references, hidden easter eggs, and some surprisingly emotional moments, Detective Pikachu quickly became one of the most beloved video game adaptations ever made.
