This desk has always been one of my favorite pieces in the store. At one point it was my writing desk but tbh, it’s a horrible writing desk. It’s too pretty! Every time I see it in the bookstore I feel like it’s living its best life.

And, if you look at the top right corner of the picture, you’ll see where beechmont_bakehouse_502 will have their pastry counter at the GRAND OPENING this Saturday 🎉

🚨Last Week for Mugs🚨

To be clear, there is no emergency, just pre-orders on our new Stationery Store mugs will end Friday. So maybe that's an emergency for you, I don't know how seriously you take your mugs.

Our fundraiser is entering the second half of the month which means that "thank you" incentives will start to arrive soon and the lower pre-sale price on mugs is coming to an end. Last day to reserve a pre-sale mug for $25 will be this Friday, August 21st. After Friday, mugs will be available in the store to purchase for $30.

Pre-orders for mugs will be available to pick-up next Tuesday as well as available to purchase in our store. If you have ordered a mug, you will receive a notice that your order is ready.

We’ve raised $4,089 so far, which means we have enough to gussy up the new space and make it shine. We still need to raise a little more to purchase the inventory needed and bring the shop to life, cuz what is a stationery store without stationery? Your support will help us stock those shelves and create the fun, welcoming stationery shop this city deserves.

From Beechmont Bakeshop: "We have been working on a contingency plan for our missing oven for a while now, and we need a little more time before we open, so we are pushing back our opening one week. On top of not having all of our gears in place yet, I need more time. I don’t feel ready, we want to bring y’all the best experience we possibly can, and I need a little more time to do that.

We sincerely apologize for this, please be patient with us, we are close, we just have a long list of things to get through, Danielle works a full time day job, and I’m solo at the kitchen day to day, working on our market prep and the set up of the cafe. We’re stretched thin but we will get to the finish line."

Every Candy Bar Counts

Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraiser in our first week. We are only a week in and we have almost made it half way.

I mention at the top that every candy bar counts because we have been so pleased by the response customers have had to us selling candy bars for our fundraiser. This has mostly been customers who are finding out about the stationery store when they come in to buy books. Now we just need to sell 643 more candy bars :)

If you can't donate, we understand. You can still support us by spreading the word to friends and family, especially those with a connection to Louisville's south end community.

We were able to find some time last week to clean up the space a little bit, pull out nails, and remove most of the sticky tape on the ceiling. The little things add up and I got to see the little things up close on Friday. Check out the pictures below to see where it starts.

First day spending time in the space to remove screws, ceiling tape, and asses what needs to be done. The little things add up so quickly and become so overwhelming. *deep breath*
The first picture shows the wall that will have the daisy print featured on the coffee mug available for pre-order. The mug is the only item we have a limit on so grab yours at the discounted price while you can. We appreciate all the support coming in. Send good thoughts.

Watch for these pen packs in a little library near you. We’re going to be hiding about a dozen of these Foxing Books pen packs around the city in little libraries. Check our stories daily to see if another one has been placed somewhere and help us spread the word about stationery store fundraiser.

This past Saturday was our first day of fundraising for our new stationery store, and what a success! It was so nice to chat with people about our plans for the space, receive donations throughout the day, and introduce you all to some of the items we'll be carrying.

We’ve gotten a lot of questions about when we plan to open the stationery store. The short answer is as soon as possible. We’ve already put some time and money into the design, furniture, and stationery stock that will fill the space. We plan to immediately begin cleaning and painting (more on the that to come). As we raise money for the space, we will begin stocking it with everything we need to open and then we’ll open. Magic, right?

Not exactly but what is magical is the community behind helping this happen. That’s you! Thank you.

The longer answer for when we will be opening is: it depends. As we said above, we've already put some time and money into the space and will be starting to clean and paint this week. Once we are able to raise more funds, we will buy stock for the store and begin work on the more expensive upgrades needed for the space.

If everything goes perfectly as planned, (keep in mind it never does) we will be open by the end of September. If it takes more time for us to raise the funds and do the necessary work, we are looking at October or November.

In the coming days and weeks and months we will be updating everyone via our newsletter and on social media. Thank you again for your continued support.

August 1st

1. Our new bookstore t-shirts are simple white with black lettering and begging to be tie-dyed, so let's do it! Choose your t-shirt size and time slot on our homepage. Gloves, rubber bands, dye, and plastic baggies to take your shirt home will be provided. Your t-shirt will be pre-treated and ready when you arrive. This activity is for adults and teens, if it is successful we will open it to kids in the fall (when we can go outside). If you have a kiddo interested in participating, please let us know so we can plan for a future event. This is a ticketed event so please visit our website to reserved your spot.

2. Zoop Scoops (https://www.zoopscoopsicecream.com/) will be joining us from 12:30-2:30 so you can grad a scoop (maybe even a scoop of Super Man ice cream) before or after you tie dye your shirt. What could be better?

3. Emma's Fandom Goods (https://www.instagram.com/emmas.fandom.goods/) will be hanging out and painting edges from 12-5PM. Go check out her page and plan to get your favorite book (or your brand new book) custom painted.

4. Our Pen Pal Project (https://www.instagram.com/p/DaxfUD2FswK/) with our Alaskan counterparts, Solstice Books, begins August 1st. If you filled out a form for a pen pal, you can come pick out a card for someone to write to. Keep in mind that on the other side of this (the Alaska side) your info card will be available to pick up at Solstice Books. That person will be sending you a letter to Foxing Books. We need your contact info in order to contact you when a letter arrives for you.

This means that you can come pick up a card and potentially have 2 pen pals. If you pick up a card, this guarantees you a pen pal. If you don't come pick a card, a letter should still be heading to Foxing from Alaska with your name on it.

If you have not filled out a pen pal form, please allow those who have to pick a pen pal first. If there are some left over after a week, we will open it up to those who did not fill out a form.

Remember that letters are being sent from bookstore to bookstore. You never need to provide your address but the bookstore needs a way to contact you when your mail arrives. If you have not provided that information in the form, we cannot include you in the project. Check you forms, make sure all the info is there.

5. And last but not least - Stationery Store Day! (https://stationerystoreday.org/) August 1st is Stationery Store Day and the day we are launching our Stationery Store fundraiser. Check our website on August 1st for different ways to donate.

Foxing Books is Growing

We're opening a stationery store! A small space is opening up across the hall from us and we are creating a location just for stationery supplies: pens, pencils, notebooks, cards, stickers, etc. There's not a ton of renovating that needs to be done but even small improvements can be costly.

August 1st we will be launching our fundraiser for the space. The fundraiser will be through our website and in the coming weeks we will be sharing some of the thank you levels.

We are trying to raise at least $10,000 to cover our costs which is a lot of money, we know. Each and every little bit counts and we will work with whatever money we raise, building slowly if necessary. We are looking forward to creating a space dedicated to stationery and creativity.
