We've got one more musical performance scheduled before we move into Banjo Season, and it's gonna be a big one, folks. Moose Loon, the solo incarnation of Bendigo Fletcher's Ryan Anderson, will be returning to Surface Noise on Saturday, September 26, along with Lexington-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist Warren Byrom. Between the two of them, they pretty much burned down the "stage" here at HurleyFest in April, so there's no telling what confluence of energies might be unleashed at 7:00-ish on the Saturday after next--only at Surface Noise!

You have less than a week to split the swinging doors to Joel McDonald's Spiritual Loner Saloon, which closes on September 19. We're holding off on closing receptions for the time being, so the exhibition closes when we close at 6:00 on Saturday. It's a rich and rewarding show that has truly captivated those who've come to our Darby Forever Gallery to see it. My only Cheetah Chrome story is more of a Stiv Bators story, but here goes.

One of Louisville's punk rock creation myths involves original Malignant Growth lead singer Kenny Ogle. The details are a little hazy, but I believe Kenny was staying with his aunt and uncle in Cincinnati and at some point snuck out to see the Dead Boys. He came back to Louisville raving about them to Mark; that's how punk rock came to the South End and how the Growth first developed its Dead Boys obsession. Easy to do when their music had one foot firmly planted in Alice Cooper and the early seventies hard rock they were already way into.

I told all of this to Cheetah Chrome the one time I saw him play in East Nashville. "Aw, man," he said, "Stiv would have liked that story so much. He loved playing Louisville."

"Wait a minute," I said. "The Dead Boys played Louisville?!!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"No, we never made it down," he said. "But Stiv played there a bunch with Mother Goose, a band he was in before the Dead Boys. He said Louisville was the only place he'd ever been where people partied as hard as they do in Cleveland."

Way to be, party people of Louisville, Kentucky. RIP, Cheetah. RIP, Stiv. 🖤🖤
