A little Van Winkle family history…

Back in the 1970s, when bourbon sales were slow, our grandfather, Julian Van Winkle Jr. (Pappy’s son) had to get creative. One of his ideas was putting bourbon in ceramic decanters that people might want to keep long after the bourbon was gone.

And they did.

We recently found a stash of these old empty decanters while cleaning out our dad’s office, and it was so much fun to see them again. Even better, our kids are completely enamored with them and have already claimed a few for their rooms.

The days of needing a fancy decanter to sell the bourbon are thankfully long gone, but we’re pretty happy these funny little pieces of our family history are still hanging around.
