Come tie a fly for his father's day surprise!
We will be tying the “Partridge and Orange” soft hackle wet fly.
You’re on the stream, Trout are rising everywhere to a huge caddis hatch. You’ve tried every dry fly in your box without the slightest hint of love. What now? Try swinging a soft hackle wet fly through the risers. A soft hackle swung on a tight flyline best represents the rising emergence of any caddis or mayfly. Simply cast slightly down and across the current and let the fly swing to a position directly below where you are standing.The strike (usually quite aggressive) will typically happen in the last few feet of the swing.

What’s a “soft hackle?” The fly which dates back to the late1400’s is a very simply tied, simply fished, pattern that has stood the test of time. The fly best replicates a caddis or mayfly that is hatching or emerging as it struggles to reach the surface of the water column. This is perhaps the insect’s most vulnerable state which is what makes this pattern and technique so effective.
