On Wednesday, September 16, from 7:30- 9 p.m., spend an evening under the stars at High Plains Environmental Center with the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society for the next event in the Dark Sky series. 🤩

Come get a closer look at the stars, moon, planets and galaxies above Northern Colorado. 🌌

Stargazing is highly weather-dependent, so registered guests will be notified by email if the event needs to be postponed or canceled.

Wild Wonderful Weekend returns September 11–13 with three days celebrating the art, wildlife, landscapes and local businesses that make Centerra one of a kind.

Start the weekend with live music from WireWood Station, food from the Hub Café by Fresh Plate Catering at Kinston Centerra and a charity raffle and silent auction benefiting High Plains Environmental Center.

Into the Wild 🐢
Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM–9 PM
Chapungu Sculpture Park

Spend the day exploring work from more than 25 nature-inspired artists, meeting wildlife experts and live animals, shopping HPEC’s Native Plant Sale, tackling a giant ropes course and enjoying back-to-back live music, local food and hands-on nature experiences.

September’s bringing out the best in this Colorado native. 🌾

This week’s Plant of the Week is Sand Lovegrass (Eragrostis trichodes), a native perennial bunchgrass that really shows off this time of year with an airy haze of red and purple from late summer into early fall.

Beyond its good looks, Sand Lovegrass is highly drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and provides food, nesting material, and cover for local wildlife. It’s also a great fit for xeric landscapes.

A closer look at Colorado’s birds of prey is coming to the High Plains Environmental Center. 🦅

This Saturday, August 29, from 9–10 am, the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program-RMRP is bringing a few of its Educational Ambassadors to the High Plains Environmental Center for a morning all about raptors, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.

You could meet an American Kestrel, Red-Tailed Hawk, Eastern Screech Owl, Bald Eagle or another incredible raptor. The lineup is a surprise! 👀
