Maritza G. is a storyteller. For almost a decade, she’s been telling the stories that make Lowell special on the LTC show she co-hosts with Bob Forrant, History in Lowell, and she just started a video podcast, Candy Apples, about the stories that move us. Maritza is also–no surprise–a big fan of books. “Books are portals to another world, another place and time,” she told us. “They help us make sense of the world around us and our own inner worlds.”

It is no surprise, then, that books are what led Maritza to her best friend, local author and poet Masada Jones. “We bonded over our love for Octavia Butler and decided to read Kindred together with a few of our other friends,” Maritza shared. “Ten years late, we I celebrated our friendship by getting matching tattoos from Octavia Butler's Parable series - ‘All that you touch you CHANGE’ - with an acorn in the center.” (IYKYK)

Over the years, Maritza’s taste in books has only expanded. “My top genres, which vary from year to year, include Fantasy, Sci-Fi, YA, Romance, Horror, Thriller, Historical Fiction, and Historical Nonfiction,” she said. Thanks to lala bookseller Hailey, she’s also recently added manga to that list. If your tastes are equally wide-ranging, you’ll love getting to know Maritza every bit as much as we have.
