People were surprised when I announced I was downsizing Wearforward, just like people were surprised when I closed the kids store across the street. And I get why they might be.

Walk into Wearforward on a Saturday and it looks busy. Look at our Instagram following and you might assume that translates directly into a thriving business.

But the outside of a small business does not always match what’s happening on the inside.

There are SO many moving parts behind the scenes, and small businesses simply do not have the same advantages giant corporations have. So I wanted to actually show you the numbers.

I’ve always run this business with both numbers AND passion. The problem is, when the numbers stopped working, I kept trying to force them to work because I loved what I built.

but it’s not sustainable.

Wearforward is changing. A lot. The new version will be smaller, hyper-curated, higher quality, stricter with drop-offs, and yes, probably more expensive. Because it also has to be a business that can actually survive.

For a long time, I could make a high volume, low price model work because I could market the absolute hell out of it and bring enough people through the doors to squeak by. But that model cannot survive an economy where fewer people are shopping. So this isn’t me giving up. It’s me finally pivoting to what needs to change so Wearforward can keep existing.

More details soon + NEW LOCATION ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK. 💚

I hope seeing the numbers gives you a little perspective into what it actually takes for small businesses to survive on Main Street.

A few updates! If life could stop testing how strong I am, that would be so cool 😎 sick kid takes priority today so we will be closed today.

This month I will be pulling some crazy days to get the shop ready to transition into a new space and new model so I’ve decided to close on Sundays for the rest of the month so I can have a weekend day with my baby!

Exciting things are coming and this transition is truly bittersweet ❤️ more information about all of it to come this week.

With love, Tori.

After one crazy year in this big, beautiful space, WearForward is moving again.

Over the weekend, I announced that we would no longer be accepting consignment for cash while we took time to restructure and catch up financially. After seeing where sales landed at the end of the month and having a very honest conversation with my landlord, I had to face the reality that continuing to maintain our current space just isn’t realistic.

My landlord has been incredibly kind and supportive through all of this and offered me a creative solution: moving WearForward into a much smaller space with significantly cheaper rent so I have a real chance to keep this business alive.

So, by October 1, WearForward will be moving and downsizing significantly.

Until then, we will not be accepting any consignment. September will be spent selling fixtures and decor, returning items we won’t be able to bring with us, organizing inventory, and restructuring the business into something I can realistically maintain. We WILL still be open for shopping throughout the month.

For our current consignors, one of my biggest priorities through this transition is continuing to catch up on outstanding balances and restructuring our consignment system so we can move forward in a way that is sustainable and allows me to honor our obligations with integrity. More information about all of that will be coming soon.

I get the privilege to take WearForward back to its roots. Except this time, I’m not the 23 year old baby figuring it all out for the first time. I get to rebuild with six more years of experience and a whole lot of lessons learned the hard way.

Thank you for supporting WearForward through every version of this business. We’re still here. We’re just getting smaller so we can keep going.

this is an incredibly difficult post to make, but a necessary one.

We’re making some temporary changes to consignment while I work through what’s already in front of us and figure out the healthiest path forward for WearForward. Thank you to everyone who has supported this little shop and continues to give us grace while I work through it.

If you have any questions or concerns and would like to reach out to me directly, you can email me at [email protected].
