We started this little collection with a kerosene lamp.
Then came the Geneva Hand Fluter.
And for Thriftmas Find #9, weโre ending with something that looks much older than it probably is.
This matching pair of rural prints appears to be from the mid-century / 1960s decorating era, when reproductions of older pastoral artwork became popular again in American homes.
And they certainly knew how to frame them.
Each print is approximately 12" wide ร 17" tall, set inside an ornate oval metal frame and protected beneath domed glass โ the kind of glass that gives the image a wonderful depth when viewed from the side.
The scenes themselves reach back to an older way of life:
๐พ A man standing quietly in a field beside his pitchfork.
๐พ A woman pausing near a wheelbarrow during the dayโs work.
They werenโt necessarily meant to document farm life firsthand.
They were made to evoke it.
And by the 1960s, scenes like these had found their way back onto living-room walls, dining rooms and hallways โ a little bit of old-world country life worked into mid-century homes.
Thatโs part of what makes vintage decorating so interesting.
Sometimes youโre not just looking at one period of history.
Youโre looking at one generation remembering another.
And that seems like the perfect way to finish our โBefore You Flipped a Switchโ weekend.
