👋 Meet Your Appliantist: Robert

Robert is the co-owner and lead technician here at Science Appliance — the OG Appliantist.

With more than 17 years of experience in the appliance industry, Rob is the guy who can spend an hour tracking down the real problem because he refuses to guess. He’s big on honest diagnostics, quality repairs, and making sure we’re not recommending something a customer doesn’t actually need.

He’s been serving the Lubbock area through Science Appliance since 2015, after working at and managing an appliance parts distribution store for 6 1/2 years, and a whole lot of what our company has become comes from the standard he set from the beginning: figure out what’s actually wrong, fix it right, and take care of people.

And Rob likes the people part. He loves chatting with customers and, after all these years, has gotten to know many of them on a personal level. For him, a service call is rarely just walking in, fixing an appliance, and walking back out.

The science in Science Appliance fits him pretty well, too. He’s a lifelong science nerd who loves math, astronomy, figuring out how things work, and learning just about anything he can get his hands on.

Outside of appliances, he loves traveling and outdoors, spending time with his family, finding a new adventure, and learning something new wherever he goes.

He’s the technical brain behind a whole lot of what we do, the person our technicians call when they run into something especially challenging, and a huge part of what has made Science Appliance what it is today.

The Science Behind Science Appliance: Step 4 — Test the Hypothesis 🔧⚡

We've asked the questions, done the research, and formed a hypothesis. Now it's time to put that theory to the test!

This is where the real hands-on science happens.

Our technicians use diagnostic tools, electrical measurements, component testing, and their understanding to determine whether their theory holds up.

But here's the interesting part: Sometimes our hypothesis is WRONG!

And that's not a failure. That's science doing exactly what it's supposed to do!

Every test gives us new information. Sometimes the evidence confirms our suspicions. Other times, it tells us to look somewhere else.

The goal isn't to prove ourselves right. It's to find out what's actually wrong because just replacing parts until something works isn't a diagnostic strategy. It's an expensive guessing game.

At Science Appliance, we follow the evidence, not just our hunches.

Tech Tip Tuesday!

Is your washing machine draining while it's filling?

The problem might not be your washer at all!

It's called siphoning, and it can happen when your washing machine's drain hose isn't installed correctly.

If the hose is pushed too far down the drainpipe, installed too low, or sealed airtight, water can be pulled right back out of the machine as it fills!

Your washing machine's drain hose needs to be properly secured, installed at the manufacturer-recommended height and depth, and have an air gap where it enters the standpipe.

Improper drain hose installation can lead to wasted water, longer cycles, and a washer that just can't seem to fill properly.

Sometimes what looks like an expensive appliance repair is actually a simple installation issue!

Today is a bittersweet day at Science Appliance! 💙🧡
After many years with us, today is officially Kaiden’s last day as he heads off to chase his dreams and pursue his own business, Misfit Motorcycles, full time!

From a Science Appliance standpoint, we're definitely going to miss having him as part of our everyday team. But as friends, we couldn't be more proud of him or more excited to watch him take this next big step!

Kaiden, thank you for all your years of hard work, dedication, laughs, and everything you've contributed to Science Appliance. You've been a big part of our team, and we appreciate you more than you know.
Now, we want to give a BIG shoutout to MISFIT MOTORCYCLES! 🏍️💥

Kaiden is putting his heart, passion, and hard work into growing his business, and we want to see him succeed! We’re out of the office today for the Lubbock Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build! 🏠💙

The Science Behind Science Appliance: Step 3 — Form a Hypothesis

We’ve asked the questions.
We’ve done the research.
Now it’s time to make an educated guess using the information we've gathered.

Training, experience, service information, error codes, test results, and the symptoms help us to narrow down the possibilities and decide what needs to be tested next.

But a hypothesis isn’t a diagnosis... we still have to prove it.

Meet the Team: Casey

If you’ve ever called, texted, or emailed Science Appliance, there’s a pretty good chance we've talked. And if you’ve been with us long enough, you might even remember when I showed up at your house instead of just answering the phone!

I’m Casey, co-owner of Science Appliance. I handle the operations side of Science Appliance, but in the early years, I spent some time riding along with Robert and learning the technical side, too.

I still have longtime customers recognize me on the phone and ask about the kids, since I spent a good portion of those service calls very pregnant 😅

These days, I work from home, where my time is spent on scheduling and dispatch, warranty companies, billing, marketing, customer communication, and all the other pieces that keep the office side of Science Appliance moving.

Working from home means running the business and raising our family have overlapped quite a bit over the years. If you’ve called us, you may have heard everything from cartoons and snack requests to the occasional very important interruption in the background.

My favorite part of Science Appliance is the team we’ve built. I love watching someone come in, learn the trade, gain confidence, and become really good at what they do. More than anything, I’m proud of what this little company has grown into and the reputation our entire team (past and present!) has built together.

Outside of work and family, I’m usually doing something theatre-related or making a little good trouble in my community.

The phones were so quiet today that I almost called the office phone just to make sure it still worked. 😅

Then I checked the calendar.

Ohhhh. It's day 1 of the fair.

It’s such a weird phenomenon. Every year when the fair comes to town, small businesses around here seem to slow way down.

So while y’all out there eating funnel cakes and avoiding responsibilities, remember that supporting local doesn’t always mean spending money.
