My daughter Kate has been traveling to the UVA Children's Hospital for treatment over the past few months, and they have always been so welcoming and have made each visit special. She has gotten excellent medical care, but our experiences there have gone so much farther than that.
Last week she had an appointment on the day her class had planned a special Christmas party, so she was especially disappointed to miss school. However, when we got to the hospital, the staff and medical professionals made it a wonderful visit! They gave Kate a coloring book with a new set of crayons and a stuffed puppy dog to cuddle before we went down for her blood draw. By the end of the day, she told me she thought it was even more fun than it would have been at school. Imagine that: something that could have been terrible was FUN because of the employees and others who had donated a few items for my sweet little girl.
On the way home, I asked Kate what she thought about getting some books to donate for other kids since they've given us a book or two each time we're there. She thought it was a great idea! We are both very excited to gather money to donate books to children who are about to go through a difficult day, and I'm happy to announce that Usborne Books & More will be matching 50% of all donations through their Literacy for a Lifetime program!
