THIS is what the hobby is all about. A collector and friend messaged me and shared this story. He sold this card on eBay to a buyer, but the buyer somehow mistakenly selected the wrong delivery option and had to message our friend. After conversing back and forth, the buyer ends up being the son of a former Bellingham Mariner who played with The Kid back in 1987. Check out the buyer’s last name and #21 on the checklist. The buyer wanted to remember his father in a cool way. This is what I’m talking about, folks! This is exactly what the hobby is supposed to be. Nevermind the chase on a rip. Nevermind the “hope” to hit that “banger.” Be responsible and make memories in a healthy way! Thank you for sharing, Russ. This one will stick with me forever.

Public Service Announcement to all of our collectors and followers: Look at these cards. These are all singles that were hit out of hobby boxes in the shop.
Everyone loves a good rip, right? But at what cost?
To open these boxes, it costs collectors $750 (or more) per box. But what if you miss? We’ve had a collector rip a $700 box with only ONE PACK in it, and got maybe $100 of value. We’ve also had a collector in the shop rip open a $1300 box and only got $200 worth of cards from it. With the prices of grading, the prices pushed out by Topps, their DEMAND of how the card shop should be run, what hours it needs to be open, minimum staffing numbers, and what your storefront should look like, we are here to tell you: BUY WHAT YOU LIKE. Don’t go after that card or auto by “hoping” to hit it. Go for it directly. Is this statement a bad idea for us? Maybe. But one thing is for sure. We are here for the community, the collectors, and to remind everyone that the hobby is meant to have fun. Come in, hang out, and let’s chat about it! We love you guys and are here to serve you.
