Swarm Trap Deep-Dive Formula
1. Volume matters more than box style. 35–45L consistently outperforms smaller nucs. If using a tote, aim for that interior volume.
2. One old brood frame centered, empty frames beside it. Don’t overfill the box. They like open cavity space.
3. Entrance facing south or southeast if possible. Morning sun helps.
4. Height is flexible. 8–12 ft is ideal, but I’ve caught plenty at 6 ft. Placement > height.
5. Put traps near where bees already exist — within ½–1 mile of known apiaries increases odds.
6. Space traps at least 200–300 yards apart. Too close and you compete with yourself.
7. Check every 7–10 days during peak swarm season. Once occupied, move them at night after a few days of orientation flights.
Most people miss on placement and timing — not equipment.
