Over the last two months I have helped 6 families prepare to move 😱 and organized a few kitchens (which is why I have been quiet on here because honestly I am sleepy!). Pre moving service entails endless packing of boxes, wrapping fragile items, and most importantly donation runs. While majority of my donations end up at Value Village, I save whatever I can for the pet or food pantries.
The pantry at the church on 124th and 100th (formerly known as Nix's pantry but now being taken on by the church) is heavily utilized by the Kirkland community who is underserved by typical food banks. I just took an entire car load and filled it to the brim but most of these items will be gone by the end of the weekend if not sooner. Even with the church's and community's increasing support this pantry is often near empty as more people in our neighborhood become food insecure.
If you are moving, have the means to buy extra items, or just need your pantry organized please consider letting me know when I am coming to your home or bringing your groceries. I will happily take it with me when I go!
Some pantry guidelines to consider are avoiding produce or refrigerated/frozen items and to remember those on restrictive diets (vegetarian, diabetic, gluten free, low sodium) as well as household items that can not be purchased on EBT (toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher pods, tampons, shampoo, pet food and litter). You want to send items that are not past their expiration dates and are sealed or at least individually wrapped (an exception would be like laundry pods split into ziplock bags).
