Meet the Makers | Northern Reach Maple 🍁

Today we had the opportunity to spend time with Christian and Katherine Thorsnes of Northern Reach Maple in Fort Kent, Maine, touring their processing facility and getting a behind-the-scenes look at the craftsmanship that goes into every bottle of their maple products.

One of the highlights? A guided taste testing of their artisan maple syrups.

From Toasted Coconut and Bourbon Barrel to Blueberry and Coffee, each syrup had its own distinct flavor profile while still letting the rich character of pure Maine maple shine through. The balance was exceptional. These thoughtfully crafted flavors complement, rather than overpower, the maple.

This is exactly what we love to discover at Wicked Awesome Maine: passionate makers who are taking traditional Maine products and creating something truly special.

After learning about farm share programs abroad, Jill Agnew returned to Maine and launched the state's first CSA in 1989, helping shape a movement that continues to connect farmers and families while strengthening local agriculture. Willow Pond Farm in Sabattus remains a reflection of that vision.

From vegetables and orchard fruit to pasture-raised meat, Jill has spent decades providing her community with fresh, local food while championing sustainable farming and the power of buying directly from the people who grow it.

Her leadership has inspired generations of farmers and helped prove that strong communities begin with strong local farms. Thank you, Jill, for your pioneering spirit and your lasting contributions to Maine agriculture.
