Did you know we carry UK editions of some popular books? They often have different (and debatably “better”) covers, and they come out in paperback sooner than US editions. In other good news, we will be expanding our UK section at the new location!

📣Introducing a tribute to our local tributary, the Yahara River, at the new location of Lake City Books! Because what would our Lake City be without the Yahara??

The 62-mile long Yahara River connects Lakes Mendota, Monona, Wingra, Waubesa, and Kegonsa in a chain that winds through south-central Wisconsin. A fun fact is courtesy of 🐟 It is also the dividing line for the 53703 vs. 53704 zip codes, and cuts through the Isthmus near its smallest width.

TBH this curvy soffit was already in the space so I asked them to paint it our brand of Lakeshore blue so we can call it a river 😎 EMBRACE THE WHIMSY YALL there is more where that came from…

ROAD TRIP 🚙🚙🚙 In this short window of time before construction wraps up and I get fully entrenched in the new space, I decided to hit the road and reset my brain. I wanted to step away from my endless to-do lists and fall in love with bookstores again from the other side of the counter, and boy did it work! I got giddy exploring the endless corners of , nerded out about merch with the owner of and felt right at home in the gorgeous just to name a few.

I was reminded that a good indie bookstore can be the life blood of a downtown, an important third space full of community and connection. Thank you to all the owners and booksellers who chatted with me and made me feel so welcome. The power and joy of these bookstores will stay with me as I finish creating the next iteration of Lake City Books, and I can only hope our new space will continue to have a positive impact on our downtown 💙

Construction is still underway but I got to make my first mark on the new space today by painting the office! The lights weren’t installed yet so I had to use my phone flashlight to find white spots and I definitely got paint on my phone BUT it felt great to spend some quality time in the new space and make a little progress! A journey of a thousand steps starts with one paint brush… or something.
