"Sal"vations, LLC is a store and more! I like to put fun back into functional! All of the items I make/build must have at least 2 purposes. When I build a table, for example, it can be flipped into a storage bench with a high back-much like the flip top tables used many years ago. I attempt to think up new ideas (some borrowed) and use these to bring tossed aside, thrown away, found in the attic, and older barn wood and combine them into something useful and fun without taking away any integrity of each item, be it large or small. I am self taught and feel driven to continue to find the "cool" in my finds. I proudly teach at The Guilford Art Center and I aim to spread the idea of reusing/rebuilding/recreating/reinventing to children and adults. My main focus is to inspire others to PROBLEM SOLVE and think about what we already have and how to make an item(s) functional again. There can be great joy and motivation in that! Many of us need to rely on our 5 senses (or as many as each of us has) and use them to help us create something that makes us feel fulfilled and proud . I am a firm believer that a multi sensory approach is best tool and I focus on each person's strongest modality (kinesthetic, visual, auditory or a mix of whatever works). The hope and main concept of this holistic approach is to build positive self esteem through creating whatever "floats your boat". The only stipulation is that the outcome must be functional/useful and fun. The functional academics that are used in building a coffee table, for example, include: Measuring and calculating-Math: Writing up a plan of action-Writing/keyboarding/spelling: Researching-Reading, organization skills, history, networking: Building/Creating-Science, Math, Reading, and Writing: Presenting-Social speaking..... I sell some of my items, and other environmentally minded designers who create Eco-friendly items-anywhere from vintage beads to bamboo reading glasses and beyond. I plan on building a blog site to let the good folks of the CT. Shoreline know what/when I will start classes/workshops and sales. I hope to start in the late spring or at the latest by early fall 2019.
