Black Ops 3D Productions: In Remembrance
Today, October 3, Black Ops 3D Productions is pausing to remember the men of Operation Gothic Serpent and the Battle of Mogadishu, fought 33 years ago.
On October 3–4, 1993, American soldiers and aircrews flew into the streets of Mogadishu on what was meant to be a quick mission. When Super Six-One and Super Six-Four were shot down, the mission became a long fight to survive. Thousands of hostile fighters surrounded them. Rangers, Delta operators, 160th SOAR Night Stalkers, Air Force Pararescuemen and Combat Controllers, and 10th Mountain Division soldiers fought through the night. None of them would leave a fallen brother behind.
Eighteen Americans gave their lives in that battle. We also honor the Malaysian and Pakistani soldiers who risked everything to reach them, and we remember every family whose life changed forever in those two days.
We especially honor Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart. They asked to be inserted at the Super Six-Four crash site, knowing the odds were nearly impossible, to protect the wounded crew. They were awarded the Medal of Honor after their deaths. What they did remains one of the clearest examples of selfless courage in American military history.
At Black Ops 3D, we spend our days recreating the aircraft and history that inspire us. But behind every airframe we model are the people who flew it, crewed it, and fought beside it. They are what gives that history its meaning. Today we set our work aside to remember them: their bravery when badly outnumbered, their loyalty to one another, and the price they paid.
To the fallen, the wounded, the survivors, and the families: we will never forget.
Night Stalkers Don't Quit. Rangers Lead the Way.
