Wow, what a day…thrilled and honored to win Best of Show w/ “Plymouth Rock” (60”x40” color woodcut) in the juried exhibit “Arrivals & Departures“ show at Heyde Center for the Arts/Chippewa Valley Cultural Association. So grateful to the the Heyde Center staff (and Kay Brathol-Hostvet, Artist and Art Workshops and Marlin Hostvet ) for all their hard work creating a beautiful exhibition, and Wisconsin Visual Artists for their support…. This piece for me is about as literal as I can get re the theme of the show “Arrivals and Departures” (2nd image: to see short summary). I needed to relay the truth with this one in this age of whitewashing history…carving then printing the truth gave me a sense of permanency to the memory and truth of colonization and genocide. Reminded me of grad school when I was learning (from John Hitchcock —so grateful for his instruction and guidance) how to be a printmaker, the history of printmaking as visual communication to the masses, and the importance of making a statement when you just have to get the truth out. …about that time this bish of a Buff Silkie decided the Silver Laced Polish was goin’ down for looking’ at her funny🙄. Very dramatic, very funny (in slowmo in the video—shot and used as reference for this sequence of one crazygirl henfight). *Artist talk Sun, 8/23, 1pm😁
