I remember working late the night before, so I was still asleep when my dad called. He always teased me about sleeping in, so when he said, “While you were sleeping, the United States was attacked,” I honestly thought he was joking. I wasn’t even fully awake yet.

I hadn’t turned on the television—and if he hadn’t called, I probably wouldn’t have for a while. We didn’t have social media or breaking news at our fingertips back then.

Whatever he said next jolted me out of bed. I ran into the living room and turned on the TV. My roommates were already sitting on the couch. I sat on the floor, stunned, and watched the towers collapse. The shock hit me instantly, and I cried.

Later, I walked out to the mailbox. We lived directly beneath a flight path, but the sky was completely still. I remember looking up and searching for a sound that wasn’t there. It felt like the opening scene of a Hollywood movie—the moment when everything suddenly stops. Except this wasn’t a movie, and the unimaginable had already happened.

Work was canceled, and we stayed frozen in front of the television all day.

The next day, I returned to work at Houston’s (Restaurant). Every television was on. No one really talked. For days, people sat quietly, ate their meals, and watched the news together.

I don’t think any of us will ever forget where we were or how the world felt that day.

Today, I remember the lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and every family whose life was forever changed. We will never forget.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we wear gold for the kids.

Gold represents how precious every child is—and the strength, courage and resilience shown by children fighting cancer and the families fighting right alongside them.

Wear gold this month for the fighters, the survivors and the little ones who will never be forgotten. 🎗️

Scan day is tomorrow for little Lilah!

Keep her in your prayers.

I am asking every follower to Follow. Read. Support.

🎗️ Scan Day Tomorrow 🎗️

9/9 at 10am Lilah will be getting her MRI. This MRI will show us the current status of her cancer. As of now she is 10 months out of treatment with no recurrence yet. This is a HUGE milestone. We have made it so far in this journey. 50-70% of children with ATRT experience relapse within the first 6-12 months of diagnosis. So Lilah is beating the odds!

Obviously with each scan we get a little nervous. The thought “is this the one where they are going to tell us there’s nothing more we can do” crosses our mind each time. Fighting relapse ATRT is hard. Harder than the original tumor. It’s hard to find treatment that will actually be effective since she already had the most aggressive protocol.

But we continue to have faith. I know God is walking this journey with us. I know he’s watching over her. I know it’s all in his timing, not mine. Lilah is a beautiful soul. I am so glad I get to be her mom. I will continue to love her and guide her through this life. Each day with her is a blessing. I am thankful for everyday I get to see her grow.

Keep us in your prayers tomorrow 💛🎗️

In the first weekend of the month, y’all shopped my little booth in the back of Cypress Landing - Louisiana enough to completely cover my booth rent for the entire month.💜It usually takes 1 weekend and a half to get the booth fee covered - booth fee was covered by mid - day Saturday the first weekend!

For a small business, that is HUGE. I am incredibly grateful for every single one of you.

To everyone who found The Twisted Hippo for the first time this weekend, welcome to the TTH family. And to those who continue to shop with me year after year, thank you for still being here.

Let me know what you bought this weekend!

I think I found our new Monday tradition… a little scroll of what y’all shopped this weekend. 💕

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 💛

HOPE.

Such a small word for something families fighting childhood cancer have to hold onto every single day.

Hope for better treatments.
Hope for more answers.
Hope for another good day.
Hope for a cure.

This month, we wear gold for the kids fighting battles they never should have had to fight, for the families standing beside them, and for the little warriors forever remembered.

Around here, we believe gold deserves a little sparkle — because these kids sure do. 💛✨

Wear the gold. Share their stories in the comments so we can pull together as a commentary and rally for Hope together.

Keep the HOPE.
