Hello to all of our Heaven Bound friends! It has been a little over a month since our friends Sam and Rhonda Baines took over the store. They have created a new page for the business (simply because we can’t remember the login information to share with them), so we will be deleting this account in a few days. A lot of you have been asking for an update on Margie and we wanted to put out one last post before we deleted this page.

Shortly after Christmas, Margie got the flu. Over a few weeks span her symptoms weren’t getting any better and she developed pneumonia. On top of that she was having pains in her stomach. She (finally) went to Blount Memorial where they admitted her with pancreatitis. While treating that, the doctors found some more problems with her pancreas. Her doctors and family agreed that being transferred to Vanderbilt would be best for her, and for her to be with the team of doctors who have treated her before. After weeks at Blount Memorial they discharged Margie home with a feeding tube while we waited for an appointment at Vanderbilt. We got the call this weekend that they are expecting her today (Monday). Johnny and Margie are on their way to Nashville now. We aren’t sure what the plans are when they get there, or even if they will be staying. But we are praying the doctors can come up with a plan for her to be healed!

We ask that you continue to keep her, Johnny, and the family in your prayers. We are ready to have her feeling better, and for them to start the retirement they deserve!

“When the Lord lays something on your heart, you’d better listen.” In 1997, my Grandparents Margie and Johnny Swabe did exactly that. After being a hairdresser for 33 years, my mamaw had no plans to open a bookstore, but she was faithful to the message that was laid on her heart.

Just a few short months later with the support of my papaw and the rest of the family, my grandparents took a leap of faith and opened Heaven Bound Bible Bookstore.

I was only 4 when the store opened. I grew up there. Before I started school, that’s where I spent most of my days. I could tell you what each coin was and all the different kinds of versions of Bibles there were before I started kindergarten. From the age of 12 and on, my mamaw picked me up every Saturday morning with a biscuit from Charlie Halls and to work we went. There were only a few Saturdays that I wasn’t there. Slumber parties, late Friday nights on the field… there was no exception. I knew I had to work the next day. And now looking back, I’m so glad I did.

They watched christian store after christian store close around them. But with the love and support of our local churches and families, they have made it this long. 27 years. My grandparents were never in it for the money. It was a mission. They touched so many peoples’ lives and I am so blessed I was there to witness it. I’ve seen people with nothing to eat leave with money to feed their family. People with broken hearts sharing their story and leave with some peace. They always took time to sit and listen to every testimony, share every burden, and give praise on every praise report. They both poured their heart and soul into this store for our community, but it was the community who made working day after day a joy.

This year will be the last Christmas as owners of Heaven Bound for my grandparents. After the new year, the store they have built from the ground up has been sold to a new couple, who we pray will be blessed for the next 30 years!

My Mamaw’s birthday is this Thursday, December the 14th. Her one big wish is that she and my papaw can say goodbye to all of the friends they have met throughout the years. So…on Thursday we will be having a party at the store during business hours! (10:00-4:00) We would love to see you and thank you for your support for all of these years. We will have cake and refreshments all day long!
