For Sale: Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone — Serial 198###
$4,500
This is a player-focused Selmer Mark VI alto with original lacquer and a remarkably warm, resonant sound. It has the kind of depth and core I associate with much earlier Mark VI altos, while still responding quickly and easily throughout the horn.
The alto has a replacement Selmer Mark VII neck rather than its original neck. While that understandably keeps this horn out of the collector-priced category, it creates a very compelling opportunity for a serious player. In my opinion, this neck is an excellent match for the horn: it contributes to an especially warm, full sound without making the horn feel slow or resistant.
The pads are not new, but I have gone through the horn and the current setup is playing very well. They appear to be approximately halfway through their useful life, and with regular maintenance I would expect roughly 5–10 more years of service, depending on use and care.
There are a couple of areas on the body tube that were damaged and repaired at some point in the horn’s life. Those areas are shown clearly in the photos. The horn also has normal original-lacquer wear, scratching, and cosmetic evidence of a well-played vintage instrument.
This is not being presented as a pristine collector example. It is being offered as what it really is: an excellent-playing, original-lacquer Mark VI at a price that puts a legitimate professional Selmer within reach of an advancing student, college player, serious adult amateur, or someone looking for a lifelong alto without paying collector premiums.
Included is a contoured Protec case in great condition with substantial storage.
