I set this shell with a blue topaz over a year ago, but I just couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to be. Post-fire haze wearing off, I looked out at the ocean from the kitchen window, and it all made sense. The most beautiful turquoise beads I’ve ever seen, fresh from the Tucson Gem Show, matched the stone exactly. I also really need a vacation, and this would be a great necklace for that. Cabo vibes.

I’m sitting in the hotel room I am currently living in with my children. I’m tired, tired of pretending this is normal or even okay. Tired of shuffling to and from new schools and activities that once also had a home but now, like us, are shuffling back and forth in the in-between. I’m tired of the not knowing where we will be next week, next month, the next six months, next year. But, when I got to briefly visit my home on Palisades Drive, in Pacific Palisades this week; I grabbed some tools and shells, picked up stones from Fed-Ex, and I made these earrings. And I think they are pretty damn wonderful.
