Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning (UPDATE): Models have trended to a warmer solution for NOVA, with the European model being the warmest.

Warm air from the southwest seems to be the culprit, overcoming the oncoming cold front from the NW. Snow is made in the 3,000-7,000 ft. atmospheric level.

The attached screenshot from the GFS shows where the freezing line is located at the 850mb height (4,780 ft.). Purple is above-freezing (no snow...rain) and white (below freezing - snow). This is just a guideline as sometimes these upper level lows can make their own cold air to produce snow if there is enough energy in the LP system. In the global sense, we missed a snow storm by a whisker.

All that being said (for now), I expect a trace to 1" of snowfall in areas SOUTH of I-66 and WEST of I-95. This area includes as far south as Fredericksburg and Stafford. DC proper will not have any significant snow. However, NORTH of I-66 will see more snow and total snowfall could be in the 1-3" range. Those along I-81 and west, could see 2-4" of snowfall.

Timing: Snow moving into the area for many by 1 PM Saturday, but then changing over to a mix of snow/rain later in the afternoon/early evening (exception - areas north of I-66 where snow will hang on longer). The system will exit our area by 10 AM Sunday. Some may see backend snow showers as the cold re-enters from the NW.

Looking ahead: The pattern is full for the next 14-21 days. Maybe the snow lovers will catch a break soon!

I have been switching to a new phone system today and it's up and running now.

If you tried calling the shop this afternoon and got a weird message, I apologize. This was supposed to be a "seamless" transition but apparently it was not.

I'm great at fixing small engines, but not so great at phone systems. Sorry, but please call back tomorrow and I'll be able to help out.
P.S. you can now text to the shop number!
