Oh hey! We’re near our 10 year anniversary of starting this little side business! Looking back we’ve come so far, adapted, and grew!
If any of you were here from the beginning, I started out as J & J Apothecary making just skincare. This was my first event on a 100 degree day in August where all my body butters melted and I made precisely zero dollars.
A year later, CT threatened criminal charges for using the word apothecary and then came the name change.
A few years later, pre-covid, I started candle making and added that in. About a year in, containers were getting very hard to source and find for a good price once Covid hit, which is when I started finding alternative containers. My husband does estate clean outs and would bring me beautiful vintage containers that were getting tossed or donated and I fell in love with how each candle was a unique way to put a beautiful piece of glass to use.
As of this year! I completely dropped my license for skincare and stopped selling that line as prices have increased astronomically and I don’t have the time to do many events anymore. I added curated thrifted and vintage goods to go with my candle line and brand and currently have a tiny shop at Mill Street Marketplace
I do have a full-time job that has required a lot of travel this year and am also a full-time SAHM to a lovely 2 year old.
I’ve currently downsized to one wholesale account and one physical location. Event-wise, I do about 2-3 a year. I hope to increase all of these back up in the future, but for now, thanks for sticking with me and I hope you continue to follow along 💜
