🎨✨ Introduction post -
Meet our owner and operator, Kelcey Moore.
Hey y'all! I wanted to formally introduce myself as the owner and operator behind the Porch Goose. My name is Kelcey, and I’m an “art”repreneur, ceramic artist, and pottery teacher.
My background is rooted in the arts and the hospitality industry. Before I began my art teaching career, I spent 15 years working in restaurants in many different roles, including management, bartending, serving, event curating, and all kitchen duties. I have 7 years of experience running my own pottery business Slab & Cedar Ceramics, and teaching pottery to all different age levels ranging from preschool to adults. I'm currently on two art teaching rosters, including Partners for Rural Impact and the Kentucky Arts Council. My role with these organizations allows me to travel around eastern KY and teach pottery classes in schools without art programs.
Over the last 3 years, I've hosted community pottery workshops in our Clay County Public Library, and it's helped me develop a loyal following of customers and students eager to learn more. I'm also currently enrolled in the Appalachian Teaching Fellowship program. As a fellow paired with a master teaching artist, I'm learning how to improve my teaching skills and better serve our community through creating art together.
I’ve experienced firsthand the positive impacts of communal art spaces, and it’s been a long-term goal of mine to create a studio that encourages more art making and better exposure to the arts. The more we engage with creative outlets, the more regulated our nervous systems become. The more regulated we are, the better we can show up for others.
One of my goals with this space was to collaborate with other local artists and focus on showcasing the beauty of Clay County and Eastern KY. We deal with a lot of misconstrued perceptions of this region, and as easy as it is to focus on the negative, I believe there's WAY more positive that outweighs the bad.
I’m currently working on developing a new collection of pottery that is representative of Clay County and all the beauty it has to offer. New mug designs, some old favorites, and larger collector pieces are what’s to come. I can’t wait to unveil this collection to you all when we open the doors this fall!
Stay tuned for more artist introductions and thank you for following The Porch Goose!! ✨🎨🌿
