🎨✨ Introduction post -

Meet our owner and operator, Kelcey Moore.

Hey y'all! I wanted to formally introduce myself as the owner and operator behind the Porch Goose. My name is Kelcey, and I’m an “art”repreneur, ceramic artist, and pottery teacher.

My background is rooted in the arts and the hospitality industry. Before I began my art teaching career, I spent 15 years working in restaurants in many different roles, including management, bartending, serving, event curating, and all kitchen duties. I have 7 years of experience running my own pottery business Slab & Cedar Ceramics, and teaching pottery to all different age levels ranging from preschool to adults. I'm currently on two art teaching rosters, including Partners for Rural Impact and the Kentucky Arts Council. My role with these organizations allows me to travel around eastern KY and teach pottery classes in schools without art programs.

Over the last 3 years, I've hosted community pottery workshops in our Clay County Public Library, and it's helped me develop a loyal following of customers and students eager to learn more. I'm also currently enrolled in the Appalachian Teaching Fellowship program. As a fellow paired with a master teaching artist, I'm learning how to improve my teaching skills and better serve our community through creating art together.

I’ve experienced firsthand the positive impacts of communal art spaces, and it’s been a long-term goal of mine to create a studio that encourages more art making and better exposure to the arts. The more we engage with creative outlets, the more regulated our nervous systems become. The more regulated we are, the better we can show up for others.

One of my goals with this space was to collaborate with other local artists and focus on showcasing the beauty of Clay County and Eastern KY. We deal with a lot of misconstrued perceptions of this region, and as easy as it is to focus on the negative, I believe there's WAY more positive that outweighs the bad.

I’m currently working on developing a new collection of pottery that is representative of Clay County and all the beauty it has to offer. New mug designs, some old favorites, and larger collector pieces are what’s to come. I can’t wait to unveil this collection to you all when we open the doors this fall!

Stay tuned for more artist introductions and thank you for following The Porch Goose!! ✨🎨🌿

It's been so exciting seeing all your reactions to the Porch Goose. And I know you're eager to know when the doors will be open to this new space. So let's talk about location and timelines...

We will be located in the historic Asher Building in downtown Manchester which is currently under a remodel project. She's getting new floors, windows, lighting and more exciting updates. The tentative move in date is set for July.

Once we're in the space the first phase will begin with inputting all of our artists work in a barcode system for an easy, quick check out process.

Next will come display and organizing the gift shop area. The space will be thoughtfully curated into different zones including staples for your home (pottery, bagged coffee, handmade soaps, candles), stationary, fine art prints and photography (post cards, stickers, posters). Plus lots more. (Stay tuned for more artist introductions coming your way soon.)

We will be preparing for a "soft" opening for Manchester Music Fest weekend on Sept. 3rd where we will have the doors open, retail items for sale and ready to show off our new space to the public.

Phase 2 will start by preparing the studio for classes and artist-led workshops. More announcements around this phase will come soon!!

We know you all are eager to check out this new addition to Manchester and we are too!! If there are any gift shop must-haves you'd like to request we carry please drop your suggestions below.

Now that the goose is out of the bag...let's talk about the story behind this concept and the "why" behind it all.

We have so many talented makers in this area and no way to connect them with consumers. We also have a growing collection of people interested in pursuing new hobbies and learning new skill sets but not a lot of spaces to provide those services.

Imagine a community art studio that offers a variety of handmade gifts AND artist-led workshops. Picture: paint nights, pottery classes, and exclusive events with local small business partners.

The Porch Goose will be a lot of things, but to sum it all up, creative space just felt right. Our main mission is to support local artists, encourage art-making, and make art accessible to everyone.

The space will be laid out into two different zones. One side will serve as a curated gift shop featuring all handmade items by local makers in the area. And the other zone will be the studio space. Where all the magic happens ✨ This is where we’ll host different classes, demonstrations, and events.

The main goal of this project is to showcase the creative makers in our region and highlight the beauty of Clay County and Eastern Kentucky as a whole. There is an unbelievable amount of artistic talent within these hills, and our aim is to amplify that talent in every way we can.

Let us know what kinds of classes you'd like to see offered at the Porch Goose in the comments!!
