Hartwick Huskys Secure Top-6 Finish at 2026 Division 1 National Championship, Celebrating Record Season Ahead of Lake Delhi Finale
100% volunteer, pond-trained team from across Iowa and Illinois shines alongside national champion Aquanuts at Division 1 Nationals before closing season on Saturday, August 15th
LAKE DELHI, IA — Following a powerful showing at the Midwest Regional Tournament, the Hartwick Huskys Water Ski Team delivered an inspiring performance of their 2026 Show "Thrills and Chills in Hartwick Cove" on highest division of show skiers, after Division 1 show skiing, taking 6th place overall out of 14 elite teams at the 2026 Division 1 National Show Ski Association (NSSA) Championship at Eagle Lake in Evansdale, IA. The team had an overall score of 1533.05 points. On Friday in individual competition, the Huskys' Jump Team also captured 6th place for individual competition.
In a tournament where the Aquanuts from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, claimed 1st place overall, the Huskys proved that heart, teamwork, and technical precision can rival the country's largest programs.
Punching Above Their Weight
What makes the Huskys' top-six national ranking extraordinary is their unique training environment and team size:
● Pond vs. River/Lake: While rival national competitors draw from massive municipal rosters and practice on expansive rivers and major lakes, the Hartwick Huskys refine their complex, multi-tier routines on a local pond.
● Small Roster, Big Results: Competing head-to-head against powerhouse teams with significantly larger membership bases, the Huskys proved that precise ex*****on and dedication overcome geographic and team size limitations.
Demonstrating top-tier technique, the Huskys placed in the top half of the nation across eight out of the fourteen major box score categories —highlighted by taking 1st Place in Production:
● Production: 1st Place (1013 points)
● Sound Crew: 2nd Place (957 points)
● Jump: 3rd Place (389 points)
● Overall Show: 4th Place (1843 points)
● Pyramid: 5th Place (317 points)
● Showmanship: 6th Place (768 points)
● Ballet Line: 7th Place (326 points)
● Barefoot: 7th Place (350 points)
Highlighting a True Family Sport Across State Lines
Show skiing is a high-adrenaline sport that combines elite athleticism, choreography, precision boat driving, sound production, and aerial acrobatics—an exciting discipline that many sports fans are thrilled to discover for the first time.
For the Hartwick Huskys, it is also a complete family movement. As a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization, the Huskys bring together multi-generational families and athletes who travel from dozens of cities across Iowa and across the state line in Illinois.
From young skiers participating in human pyramids to parents handling dock operations, sound engineering, announcing, props, backdrops, and boat driving, every single performance represents a total team effort.
"Show skiing is one of the most thrilling family sports in the nation, and going toe-to-toe with massive programs that train on rivers and lakes makes our national performance so rewarding," said team representatives. "We are a 100% volunteer, non-profit family. Members drive hours from across Iowa and Illinois because they love this sport, this team, and sharing something unforgettable with our communities. Blending new members with our seasoned skiers and back-stage crew has made 2026 a record-breaking year."
A Record-Breaking Year of Free Community Entertainment
The 2026 season was a landmark year for the Huskys, setting multiple organizational records, including:
● Largest Roster in Team History: Reaching record membership numbers.
● Record Ballet Line: Successfully executing a massive 25-person ballet line on the water.
● Division 1 Midwest Regional Champions: for the first time at the Division level, have earned it multiple times at Division 2 level.
In addition to competing nationally, the non-profit organization gives back to the region every summer by providing free Friday night family shows throughout June and July, hosting Learn to Ski clinics for youth and beginners, and presenting community showcases.
