Blue wing complete!

This blue wing was a challenge and a pleasure to carve. Now it’s ready to head to its new home where it is sure to pull some rice rockets into gun range!

Teal season is so close I can taste it!!!

The mornings are about to get cooler, the decoys are coming out, and that first flock buzzing the spread is right around the corner.

Who else is counting down the days?

September can’t get here soon enough.

Progress Update: Bluewing Edition pt.2

This Teal has made it through the rough carving stage, and now the fun begins. Next comes refining the feather groups, adding detail, and bringing it to life with paint.

If you’d like to see this one—and some of my other carvings and artwork—in person, come see me at the Ducks Unlimited Northshore Gun Bash on August 7th in Slidell, LA. I’ll also have my hand-carved wood duck decoy that was donated for the auction on display before it finds its new home.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there and talking ducks, carving, and hunting.

Hand-carved. Hand-painted. Built to hunt.

This hand-carved wood duck decoy will be heading to the Ducks Unlimited Northshore Gun Bash on August 7 in Slidell, LA as a live auction item. Carved from solid tupelo wood and individually hand-painted, it’s a working decoy that also makes a display piece for any waterfowler’s home, camp, or office.

If you’re planning to attend, be sure to check it out in person. Come out for a great evening supporting wetland conservation, enjoying good company, and taking your chance on fi****ms, gear, and auction items.

I hope to see you there—and good luck to the winning bidder!

Every decoy starts the same way—a rough block of wood, a few layout lines, and a vision of what’s underneath. This one’s just beginning to take shape, but it’s always satisfying when the profile starts to emerge.

Follow along as I turn this block into a hand-carved working decoy.

Progress Takes Patience ⌚️

I have elevendy hundred projects going on at once but the next decoy is making its way down the assembly line! 🦆

Anyone have any guess on how long the process from block to wood to life like decoy takes? Let me know what ya think! 🎨

The eye doctor for duck hunters… 👀

Better here?
Or here?

🦆 Wood Duck
🦆 Mallard

You can only pick one. Which are you choosing?

Just over here geeking out in the shop…

I decided to run a few of my hand-carved decoys through a 3D scanner to see what they’d look like in the digital world. Pretty wild seeing every carve mark, feather detail, and curve show up on the screen.

No real reason other than curiosity and having a little fun with technology. The scanner might be cool, but I still prefer the smell of tupelo wood and saw dust.

Which one would you put in your spread?
