No drugs or nuclear weapons allowed inside ☢️
Have you ever heard this phrase before?
Ngl, it gave me a good chuckle because I hadn’t, but I was in high school debate in 2001 when the topic was Weapons of Mass Destruction.
As the nightlife party scene exploded in the 1980’s, so did the use of illicit recreational drugs in bars and clubs, primarily in the bathrooms. To help combat this, Hard Rock Cafe famously used this hyperbolic slogan on their bathroom stalls to remind patrons of the house rules with a little humor surrounding the Cold War era.
Soon after, they sold (or gave away) novelty pinbacks like this one emblazoned with the slogan, and the phrase has since become a bit of a nostalgic sensation. These aren’t rare or anything, but they are a very interesting part of pop culture history.
