Downtown Books Downtown Books- a very independent bookstore featuring a wide range of books (Outer Banks titles!), greeting cards, puzzles, book baskets, and more.

Twice voted the Best Bookstore on the Beach we work hard everyday to retain that title. Downtown Books is the independent bookstore on Roanoke Island and serves the entire Outer Banks. Our carefully curated book selection is handpicked and includes fiction, cookbooks, young adult, children, spirituality, NYT best-sellers, a wide variety of Outer Banks titles and more. In addition to new books, there is also a smaller section of Used books fairly priced. We also carry many lines of greeting cards, puzzles and hand-carved trees from North Carolina vendors and other unique gift items. We are committed to helping make our community a better place; are dedicated to supporting Dare County Schools; strive to give authors and readers the opportunity to come together; and try every day to put the right book in the right hands at the right time.

There is nothing quite like swapping stories and brainstorming with women who just get it. We’re so incredibly lucky to have this community of independent bookstores supporting each other here on the Outer Banks.🫶📚
