Flower Farming Recap, Week 25 = hopefully our last insanely full week for a little while! Subscriptions, florist orders, Wednesday market, a wedding, a big birthday weekend for our son Mathias who just turned 8, and then on top of it all, the unexpected news that our long-time compost supplier is going out of business, which meant for a lot of scrambling this week to try and secure as much of their remaining supply as we could. Phew!

Here's the rundown -

1 - I've been trying to get in front of the camera more, rather than always staying behind it. So here I am holding this week's bridal bouquet in colors of light blue, orange, cream, and soft pink. One of my favorites to date!

2 - This week's subscriptions. Late June = always a favorite :)

3 - This is our first season growing foxglove in earnest. While I don't love certain things about it (its extreme toxicity, for one, and also how much the bells shed), I do have to say -- it sure photographs a dream!

4 - This week's haul for the Utah Flower Market - a sea of blue!

5 - It's officially poppy season! We don't grow these for the blooms as much as we grow them for the pods, which make for a nice textural accent. Love seeing the pops of color everywhere this week, though!

6 & 7 - more shots of the wedding flowers! I did two large arrangements for the ceremony, as well as the bridal bouquet, a maid of honor bouquet, and bulk flowers for bud vases. Such a pretty color palette!

8 - As mentioned above, we got the (shocking) news that our long-time mushroom compost supplier is going out of business at the end of this month, so we were scrambling this week to schedule in truckloads of the last of their stock that they had, which we've also been selling like crazy. We only have about a third of it all left, so if you want mushroom compost, this is literally your last chance to get any!

9 - Once we were finished with all the fulfillment for the week, we turned to some much-needed farm tasks like treating the roses, weeding (always), and putting up more support netting.

10 - Our second oldest (Mathias) turned 8 this week! We had a little friend party at the local pool and stretched out the celebrations to fill the whole weekend.

11 - Family pic in front of the blooming delphinium row :)

Man, I need a nap! 😅😅😅

In case you missed the announcement, we just got word that our long-time mushroom compost supplier let us know this week that they're closing their doors permanently at the end of this month.

We have bought up every last bit of their remaining supply we could, but once it's gone, it's gone for good. (Ugh, we are sooooo sad about this! It took us FOREVER to find a compost source this amazing!)

They called us yesterday with the news, and they had 84 super sacks left (which we purchased). We have already sold 49. If you are wanting any of the remaining 35 which will be coming through in the last couple loads we've scheduled, let me know ASAP!

***Because I know people will ask, we did also buy up a lot of their remaining inventory of the smaller 40-lb bags. Once again, it's a limited stock that once it's gone, it's gone.

***CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT ON MUSHROOM COMPOST!***

We have just gotten word that our long-time mushroom compost supplier is shutting their doors permanently at the end of this month. We are buying up as much of their remaining stock as we can since it will be the very last that there is.

Once we set aside what we will need for our own farm for the next few seasons, we will be selling what we have left to the public. Once it's gone, that's it -- there will not be any more mushroom compost available 😭😭😭

If you've bought this stuff before, you know how amazing it is. I encourage you to act fast if you want to reserve some for your own needs because they had very limited stock as it was.

Link below if you want to make sure some of the totes or bags get set aside for you -- we will only be setting aside orders that have already been paid for, either via the website (easiest method) or Venmo (just text me at (801) 560-1143).

We are soooo bummed that we won't have this source of compost anymore! We will be on the lookout for another supplier further out, but it might take us years to find anything this good. If we do, we'll let you know.

Flower Farming Recap, Weeks 22-24

Boy, is it refreshing to be in June! May was a bit of a dumpster fire because of all the crop loss, but other than the peonies and alliums, many of our June crops have come more or less as planned, and they have been the bright spot of beauty we were sorely needing after the intensity and disappointment of the spring.

Here's a little snippet of what we've been up to in the past 3 weeks:

1 - making so many peony bouquets for all the subscriptions!! this year, we added a new weekly option for subscribers, which has been a fun challenge for me to see if I can manage to switch things up from week to week (esp with many of the same ingredients). I'm bummed we don't have extras to stock the self-serve cooler for the general public, but that should start up again in July.

2+3 - our initial weekly hauls to the were pretty unimpressive through spring due to all the aforementioned loss, but now that the delphinium and other June perennials have started, we're filling up the van slowly but surely. (once the snaps start in earnest in about a week, it will be a full haul every week from hereon out!)

4+5 - we did a gorgeous "vibrant mountain meadow" wedding a week back, which was perfectly delightful. so much color, so much fun! here's a shot of the bridal bouquet and all the ingredients that were laid out before said bouquet was put together :)

6+7 - june is for spikes! delphinium, foxglove, larkspur, snaps...all the good stuff

8 - our biggest news from the past 3 weeks is that Naomi's heart procedure went FANTASTIC! we were unsure if the docs would be successful closing the hole using a catheter procedure, but once they went in, it turned out she was an excellent candidate. such a blessed relief, and it feels as if I've finally been able to exhale and relax for the first time in 3 years.

It's been a wonderful start to June, for sure!

Last chance for mushroom compost until fall! Once this load is gone, we're out until later in the year.

We've got five of the 1300-lb super sacks left and about 30 of the smaller 40-lb bags.

Spring is saved, y'all.

Time for the season to finally hit its stride!

After the most catastrophic spring ever, I am pleased to announce that June is looking distinctly and abundantly beautiful 😍
