Our lovely customer Nancy snapped these photos of a young barn swallow testing out its wings just outside the store! Its nest was right above one of our doors, so we’ve watched these guys grow up from eggs to nestlings to full-fledged citizens of the sky. Way to go, guys! Some of you may recognize this friendly face from past summers, but we are extremely pleased to announce that the wonderful Carolyn Maizel has officially joined the finnesterre team year-round! 🎉🎉🎉

Carolyn has been working at the store every summer since 2022, and her positive attitude, bubbly personality, and genuine kindness have endeared her to customers and coworkers alike. It doesn’t hurt that she is also whip smart and a hard worker! Carolyn grew up here on the Oregon coast and now lives in Seaside with her cat, Button, and her dog, Annabelle.

🎨 NEW ARTIST ALERT! 🎨

Meet Aurora Oliva. 👋

We are beyond thrilled to feature the work of artist Aurora Oliva in the store! Aurora is a Filipino-American artist currently based in Portland. She is drawn to bright, saturated colors and rhythmic patterns that evoke both playfulness and structure. She finds comfort in the repetition of geometric forms, using them as a meditative framework through which to work.

It is the moment of disruption within this repetition, however, that captures her interest. By breaking patterns—introducing irregularities, shifts, or interruptions—Aurora creates visual tension and movement, allowing the work to breathe beyond order and symmetry.

Three years ago a young man walked into finnesterre for a job interview. He had arrived early for his appointment, so he decided to explore the shop while he waited. Soon, the interview had to wait for him, so amazed was he by everything he was finding in the store, especially the original work by local artists. Secretly, he was hired before the interview happened. 😉

Hiring Drew is a decision we’ve never regretted, and if you’ve ever shopped here, you know why. Drew is a joy to be around. He brings so much energy and enthusiasm to the store. He loves our customers AND their dogs. We are sad to announce that, at the end of February, Drew will be moving on to a new chapter in his life.

But don’t worry! You will still be able to see him from time to time because he will be working with his wife, Jackie, at her Garibaldi pizza food cart, Fornax. (BTW - if you haven’t been to yet, go! Amazing wood fired pizza.) While we are sad to lose Drew, we are glad he will still be here on the coast, making it a better place to live—one happy customer at a time.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving, from all of us on the finnesterre team! (Yes, Pepperoni is on the team.) We are so grateful for all of our loyal customers who come see us year after year, and for our supportive community here in beautiful Manzanita.

The store will be closed on Thursday, but come see us on Friday for our Plaid Friday Sale—everything in the store (minus consignments) will be 20% off! This is our way of saying thanks to you, our wonderful customers.
