So this is one of the first guns I decided to try to troubleshoot. When I was a teen my parents picked up this 30-30 to allow us all to have a rifle while deer hunting. It wasn't very long into owning it, we had some issues with it. It would jam constantly and feed incorrectly. I took is apart and realized that the cartridge stop on the link assembly was broken causing the feeding issue and I found that the ejector was slightly bent causing the cartridge to jam as it was being chambered.
