Your fall tea personality should not be limited to one bag. 🍂

Some days it’s creamy Earl Grey. Some days it’s apple and cinnamon. Some days a spiced chai will do. And sometimes you want something fruity enough to remind you it’s still 100 degrees outside.

Fall Tea Tryouts puts all six in one box. Harvest Breeze, No. 7 Grey, Cherry Cabana, Apple Cinnamon Tisane, Pear Blossom, Golden Chai.

Six blends. Six completely different moods. Try them all and let your cup decide.

At some point, building a home apothecary turned into collecting every herb the internet mentioned that week.

Next thing you know, there are 37 bags in the cabinet and you are Googling what half of them do. 😂

A useful home apothecary is not about having the most herbs. It is about knowing why each one is there, how to prepare it, when you would reach for it, and when to leave it alone.

And yes, I sell herbs for a living, and I am still telling you that you might not need another one.

Five or six herbs you actually understand will serve you better than 37 mystery bags taking up cabinet space.

I broke down how to build a home apothecary that makes sense for your household, without turning your cabinet into an herbal graveyard, on the blog.

What is the mystery herb currently sitting in your cabinet? 😂

If you’re choosing decaf tea because you think it means zero caffeine, we need to talk.
“Caffeine free” and “decaffeinated” are not the same thing.
A naturally caffeine-free herbal tisane never had caffeine to remove. Decaf tea started with caffeine and went through a process to remove most of it, which means a small amount of caffeine can remain.
Tiny wording difference. Completely different meaning when you’re choosing what goes in your cup.
Read the label, especially if avoiding caffeine matters to you.

Echinacea has the worst reputation of any herb in the cabinet and it is not her fault.

People start her on day four, flat on the couch and already congested, and then announce that she doesn’t work. Of course she didn’t work, you called her when the sickness was already in full swing.

You have to get her ready at the first signs of sniffling or that achy throat. Not after you’ve been sick for 3 days. Might as well drink some water at that point.
Anyways, give her a fair shot, she works great when use right.

Now be honest, which herb did you give up on that you were probably just using wrong?

Bath bombs walked so nothing could follow, apparently.

Most of them are dye and fizz with a smell attached, and twenty minutes later you’re rinsing a ring off the tub with nothing to show for it.

These bath soaks are noting like that, they are mineral salts with whole herbs still in them, so the water goes soft and you can smell it before you’re all the way in.

Loose in the water is fine if you don’t mind fishing herbs out the drain, but you can bag it, drop it in, and let it steep a few minutes before you get in.

So, is your bath a whole event or strictly a rinse situation? No judgement!

Every summer somebody hands you a neon packet and calls it hydration. Sugar and food coloring, out here doing the absolute most and cooling down nobody.

Two teaspoons, covered, fifteen minutes. Let it chill, then cut it with coconut water and load the pitcher with cucumber, lemon and a little honey.

Now you’ve got something cold, refreshing, actually enjoyable to drink, and the coconut water brings some electrolytes to the situation without making my drink taste like Electric Blue Glacier Blast or whatever we’re calling it this year.

And because somebody is going to ask: this is not me telling you herbal tea replaces water or a proper electrolyte drink when you actually need one. This is me saying hydration does not have to be boring.
The pouch was never gonna do that.

What’s the summer drink somebody swore by that has never once worked for you?

Ginger is one of those herbs that earns its cabinet space.

Nauseous? Ginger.
Digestion feeling a little sluggish? Ginger.

Want something warming when the temperature finally decides to drop? Ginger.
But fresh and dried ginger are not exactly the same cup.

Fresh ginger is brighter, juicier, and a little more citrusy. Dried ginger is warmer, sharper, and more concentrated. I reach for them differently depending on what I’m making and what I want from the cup.
And crystallized ginger? That is the one I keep around when I want ginger without making anything at all.
This is one herb I want in the house between now and January. No notes.

Fresh or dried ginger, which one do you reach for most?
