This gorgeous box mantel is made from premium grade walnut (better than FAS). We finished it in a clear matte polyurethane to preserve the natural wood color. Finally, we drilled a hole in it for an electrical outlet.

Adding some texture to the mitered edges of these hand hewn white oak box beams requires a few steps. The screwdriver is a great tool for smashing the wood fibers together, helping to close any gaps in the miter. We use an angle grinder for the final shaping.
